At least 95 Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces in 24 hours while waiting to receive food aid, most of them in northern Gaza, where hunger conditions are worsening due to restricted aid access and the ongoing war for 21 months.
The spokesperson for the Civil Defense, Mahmoud Basal, announced today (Monday) that 86 people were killed while trying to obtain aid transported by trucks in the northwest of Gaza City, confirming that they died due to gunfire from the occupation.
The United Nations World Food Programme reported that a convoy consisting of 25 trucks carrying food aid to northern Gaza faced huge crowds of hungry civilians who were subjected to gunfire after crossing the crossings with Israel and passing through checkpoints.
It emphasized that any violence against civilians waiting for humanitarian assistance is completely unacceptable, calling for the protection of all civilians and aid workers.
In the southern part of the sector, Basal confirmed the death of 9 people near a distribution center in the Shakush area northwest of Rafah, and 4 near the Tahliyeh roundabout east of Khan Younis.
The killing of civilians waiting for aid has become an almost daily scene, with local sources and witnesses accusing Israel of firing at the crowds, especially near the distribution points managed by the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," which is supported by Israel and the United States.
The United Nations stated this week that around 800 people have been killed while waiting for aid since late May.
An eyewitness described the scene as very difficult, noting that thousands of citizens gathered to obtain flour, amidst a deadly crush and rush of women, men, and children.
Footage showed an ambulance entering Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City carrying the wounded, while shrouds piled up on the ground around the hospital, as children cried for their parents and relatives who were waiting for aid and were killed in the process.
The "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" began its operations in late May after a comprehensive siege imposed by Israel for more than two months, during which it prevented the entry of any aid or goods despite warnings from the United Nations and international organizations about the imminent danger of famine.
