He stated that the American side views this step in a broader context than just the number of platforms.

He revealed that there are very positive indications from Washington regarding supplying Ukraine with "Patriot" systems, reflecting tangible progress in the talks between the two sides. He confirmed that European partners will contribute to financing the purchase of air defense systems, while NATO is not a direct party to this initiative.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius traveled today (Monday) to the U.S. capital, Washington, to consult with his American counterpart, Pete Hegseth, about the continued support for Ukraine and military cooperation within NATO.

This is Pistorius's first visit to the United States since President Donald Trump took office in January. Observers expect that Pistorius's discussions in Washington will specifically address the delivery of additional air defense systems to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced for the first time last Thursday, during a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in Rome, Germany's readiness to purchase Patriot air defense systems from the United States to send to Ukraine.

Reports indicated that this concerns two Patriot systems. Norway is expected to finance the purchase of a third system. Ukrainian estimates have indicated that Kyiv needs about 10 systems of this type.
