Eleven people, including three children, were killed, and 31 others, including nine women, were injured in an attack carried out by forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces on the "Shaq al-Nom" area in North Kordofan, according to what the Sudan Doctors Network announced today (Sunday). The network described the incident in its statement as a serious assault on civilians and confirmed that among the injured there are critical cases of pregnant women.
It expressed deep concern over what it described as "the continued targeting of civilians in safe areas" and called on the international community, the United Nations, the African Union, and human rights organizations to take immediate and serious steps to stop the violations and hold those responsible accountable in accordance with international treaties.
Meanwhile, Sudanese sources confirmed that the army launched airstrikes on Rapid Support Forces positions in Kordofan.
The Sudanese army repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El Fasher yesterday, Saturday, according to a military source, after the Rapid Support Forces announced their control over several key areas in the city located in western Sudan.
The military source announced that the army, supported by allied armed factions, regained control of Shala Prison and the Central Reserve Police headquarters in the southwest of the city, inflicting heavy losses on the Rapid Support Forces.
For its part, a source in the Rapid Support Forces stated that they have been in complete control of these same sites since Friday, in addition to the livestock market located south of El Fasher.
The Rapid Support Forces released videos showing some of their members announcing their control over several sites in the southwest of the city.
Since losing the capital Khartoum, which was taken over by the army in March, and in an attempt to assert control over the entire Darfur region, the Rapid Support Forces have intensified their attacks on El Fasher and the surrounding displaced persons camps, where famine has been declared.
The war in Sudan has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of 13 million, causing famine in several areas of the country.
