أعلن وزير الدولة البريطاني للشؤون الخارجية هاميش فالكونر أمام البرلمان اليوم (الاثنين) فتح بلاده سفارتها في العاصمة الإيرانية طهران بعد إغلاق مؤقت.
وقال فالكونر في كلمة أمام البرلمان: «فتحنا سفارتنا في طهران بعد إغلاق مؤقت، ووضعنا خطة عمل وسنواصل القيام بدورنا الكامل لضمان سلامة المواطنين البريطانيين في إيران».
وتأتي إعادة فتح السفارة البريطانية بعد انتهاء الحرب التي اندلعت بين إسرائيل وإيران واستمرت مدة 12 يوما، والتي شهدت إغلاق عدد من السفارات أبوابها وإجلاء رعاياها.
وكانت سويسرا قد أعلنت أمس أن سفارتها في طهران ستتمكن مجدداً من تمثيل المصالح الأمريكية في إيران بشكل مباشر بعدما عاودت عملها، داعية واشنطن وطهران إلى «سلوك طريق الدبلوماسية».
وذكر بيان لوزارة الخارجية السويسرية أنه اعتباراً من (الأحد) فُتحت سفارة سويسرا مجدداً بعد إغلاق مؤقت في 20 يونيو بسبب عدم الاستقرار والوضع في البلاد، مبينة أن السفيرة نادين أوليفييري لوزانو عادت السبت الماضي إلى العاصمة الإيرانية من طريق البر عبر أذربيجان، يرافقها فريق عمل صغير.
وأوضحت الخارجية السويسرية أنه مع إعادة فتح سفارتها في طهران تستطيع سويسرا مجدداً تمثيل المصالح الأمريكية في إيران مباشرة بوصفها قوة حماية.
وتتولى سويسرا رسمياً، عبر سفارتها في طهران، تمثيل المصالح الأمريكية في إيران منذ 1980، في ظل انقطاع العلاقات الدبلوماسية أو القنصلية بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران.
وتعرض سويسرا مساعيها الحميدة، ويمكن لجنيف أن تستضيف مفاوضات بين طهران وواشنطن.
The British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hamish Falconer, announced before Parliament today (Monday) the reopening of his country's embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran, after a temporary closure.
Falconer stated in a speech before Parliament: "We have reopened our embassy in Tehran after a temporary closure, and we have put in place an action plan. We will continue to fulfill our full role to ensure the safety of British citizens in Iran."
The reopening of the British embassy comes after the end of the war that broke out between Israel and Iran, which lasted for 12 days and saw several embassies close their doors and evacuate their nationals.
Switzerland announced yesterday that its embassy in Tehran would once again be able to directly represent American interests in Iran after resuming operations, calling on Washington and Tehran to "take the path of diplomacy."
A statement from the Swiss Foreign Ministry indicated that as of (Sunday), the Swiss embassy has reopened after a temporary closure on June 20 due to instability and the situation in the country, noting that Ambassador Nadine Olivieri Lozano returned to the Iranian capital last Saturday by land through Azerbaijan, accompanied by a small team.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry clarified that with the reopening of its embassy in Tehran, Switzerland can once again directly represent American interests in Iran as a protecting power.
Switzerland has officially represented American interests in Iran through its embassy in Tehran since 1980, amid the severance of diplomatic or consular relations between the United States and Iran.
Switzerland offers its good offices, and Geneva could host negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
