After about 24 hours of escalating the "war of words" between them, American billionaire Elon Musk today (Wednesday) praised President Donald Trump, affirming that he deserves credit for resolving dangerous conflicts around the world.
Musk wrote in a post on platform X, sharing a picture of a post by Trump, in which he announced that Israel had agreed to cease its aggression against Gaza for 60 days. Musk, referring to Trump, said, "Credit goes to those who deserve it. Donald Trump has succeeded in resolving many dangerous conflicts around the world."
Trump warned on Tuesday that billionaire Elon Musk could lose much more than government support for electric cars, which would be canceled if the tax relief and massive spending cuts bill is enacted. He told reporters as he was leaving the White House for a trip to Florida, "We may have to tax Elon."
Musk owns an electric car company and a space company, and he has lucrative federal government contracts that could be harmed by the tax Trump mentioned in his statements.
Musk's comments come after their disputes reignited this week, as the former political allies exchanged sharp public threats of retaliation.
According to The Guardian, this dispute, which centered around Musk's opposition to the tax bill signed by Trump during its passage in Congress, ends a period of rapprochement between two of the world's most powerful men.
Musk previously posted tweets in which he ramped up his criticism of Trump's omnibus spending bill on his social media platform "X," describing the legislation as "crazy" and pledging to form a new political party if the law is passed.
In response, Trump hinted that he might "consider" deporting the billionaire born in South Africa and threatened to cut government support for Musk's companies or unleash the claws of what is called the "Government Efficiency Administration" (D.O.G.) on Musk, who was its former head.
Trump said, "D.O.G. is the monster that Musk used to run, and the circle could turn back to devour Elon himself; wouldn't that be terrible?"
Musk's attempt to block the tax bill was a key factor in his dispute with the president last month, and the renewed attack from the Tesla CEO comes at a sensitive time as Trump seeks to pass the legislation in Congress.
Trump dismissed Musk's criticisms of the bill, claiming that his opposition stems from the fact that it will end the tax relief for consumers who buy electric cars.
The American president said on Tuesday, "Elon is very upset about the cancellation of the electric car mandate, but not everyone wants an electric car; I myself don’t want an electric car." When a reporter asked if Trump was considering deporting Musk, he replied that he didn't know but would "look into it."
Musk responded to a video of the statement on X, saying, "It’s very tempting to escalate this, but I will refrain from doing so for now."
