Reports from the United States revealed that President Donald Trump gave his approval for a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities while he was at his golf club in New Jersey. Axios reported that Trump was at his golf club in Bedminster on Saturday afternoon, adding that he was informed at that time that the bombers were about to reach a "point of no return."
The site quoted an informed source saying: "At that time, the American president gave the final green light," adding that shortly thereafter, Trump boarded Air Force One and returned to Washington to be in the Situation Room to monitor developments.
One of Trump's close associates, who spoke with the president in recent days, revealed: "In the end, everything was fine. The timing was right."
Axios announced that a very small group of officials within the Trump administration were aware of the planned strike. An American official confirmed that there were no leaks from the Pentagon or the White House.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel was very close to achieving its goals in Iran, but he vowed to continue the war until his objectives were met while avoiding slipping into a war of attrition.
In a statement to Israeli journalists, Netanyahu said: "We will not continue our operations beyond what is necessary to achieve them, but we will not end them prematurely; when the objectives are achieved, the operation will be completed and the fighting will stop."
Netanyahu had stated in a televised address that "Israel will not be dragged into a war of attrition, but it will also not end this operation before achieving all its goals," emphasizing that Israel "has achieved a lot," and that now, with the help of President Trump, it has come closer to achieving its objectives, according to his claims.
He confirmed that the Fordow nuclear site in Iran was severely damaged by the bunker-busting bombs dropped by the United States last night, but the extent of the damage is not yet clear. He said that his government "will assess the situation and work to ensure that the Fordow facility does not pose any threat to Israel."
