Israeli media outlets published images they claimed were of agents from the "Mossad" installing offensive weapon systems inside Iran, in an unprecedented move. The video showed two operatives installing equipment in an abandoned area while wearing helmet-mounted cameras.
Israeli media reports indicated that a special unit of the Israeli Mossad carried out a series of covert operations inside Iran, preceding the large-scale military operation launched by the Israeli army early today (Friday), according to an Israeli security source.
According to the security source, these operations included: deploying precision-guided weapons in open areas near Iranian surface-to-air missile systems, using advanced techniques against Iranian air defense systems, and establishing a base for attack drones near Tehran.
Israel conducted an intensive military operation targeting sensitive sites in Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation aimed to "deter the Iranian threat to Israel's existence," as he put it. In a recorded speech, he announced that Israel targeted the main Iranian uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. Israel also targeted Iranian leaders, most notably the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, and the chief of staff of the army, Mohammad Bagheri, who were killed during the attack.
For his part, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar revealed that the decision to launch the attack on Iran, codenamed "Rising Lion," was made at the last moment.
In a statement published on the Foreign Ministry's website, he said: "The decision was made at the last moment, after exhausting all possible avenues." Sa'ar noted that the entire world understood that the Iranians were not prepared to stop, and "we had to stop them," pointing out that "difficult days await us, but we have no other choice."
According to the Israeli channel "i24 News," the crucial meeting of the security cabinet was held on Thursday evening under strict secrecy. Although the ministers were summoned under the pretext of discussing developments in negotiations with Hamas, the meeting did not address this topic at all.
The channel reported that ministers' phones were confiscated upon entering the hall and were not returned until around three in the morning. During the session, each minister was asked to explicitly declare if they opposed carrying out the attack on Iran, to ensure a unanimous decision.
At the end of the meeting, the cabinet unanimously approved the implementation of a preemptive strike against the Iranian nuclear program.
The channel mentioned that the discussion about the operation continued until late at night, before the meeting was divided into two parts: the first was dedicated to voting on executing the operation, and the second discussed the subsequent strategies for the attack. At the end of the meeting, the ministers signed a document obligating them to "maintain confidentiality" regarding what was agreed upon during the session.
Several participants in the meeting expressed concern about the possibility of Tehran discovering the Israeli plan before its execution, which could undermine the operation or weaken its ability to achieve its objectives.
