أعلنت السلطات الهندية أن الطائرة التي تحطمت اليوم (الخميس) تابعة للخطوط الجوية الهندية من طراز بوينغ 787-8 «دريملاينر»، كانت في طريقها من مدينة أحمد آباد إلى مطار «غاتويك» في لندن، مؤكدة أنها تحطمت بعد دقائق من إقلاعها ظهر اليوم.
وأوضحت السلطات الهندية أن الطائرة كانت في الرحلة رقم AI171 وتقل 242 راكباً عند وقوع الحادثة، مبينة أن الطائرة المنكوبة كان على متنها 53 بريطانياً و7 برتغاليين وكندي و169 هندياً، بالإضافة إلى طاقمها المكون من 12موظفاً.
وأشارت إلى أن الطائرة وجهت نداء استغاثة إلى برج المراقبة قبيل تحطمها، موضحة أن الطائرة المنكوبة تحطمت على مبنى سكني للأطباء في أحمد آباد.
وذكرت الشرطة الهندية أن المعلومات الأولية تشير إلى أن الطائرة فقدت الارتفاع بشكل مفاجئ بعد أن وصلت إلى نحو 825 قدماً، قبل أن تتحطم بين الساعة 1 و2 ظهراً بالتوقيت المحلي.
وهرعت فرق الإنقاذ، وسيارات الإسعاف إلى موقع التحطم. وتم نقل عدد من المصابين إلى مستشفيات قريبة، فيما تواصل فرق الطوارئ عمليات الإنقاذ.
وأغلقت السلطات الطرق المؤدية إلى المطار ومحيط الحادثة لتسهيل وصول فرق الإنقاذ، مع تطبيق تحويلات مرورية لتخفيف الازدحام.
وأعرب وزير الطيران المدني رام موهان نايدو عن صدمته قائلاً: «أشعر ببالغ الحزن والقلق إزاء تحطم الطائرة في أحمد آباد، نحن في حالة تأهب قصوى، وأتابع الموقف شخصياً»، مضيفاً: «تم توجيه جميع الجهات المعنية بالتدخل السريع والمنسق، ويتم حالياً إرسال فرق الإنقاذ والدعم الطبي إلى الموقع».
بدورها، أصدرت إدارة مطار لندن غاتويك بياناً أكدت فيه أن الطائرة كانت من المقرر أن تهبط في الساعة 18:25 بتوقيت لندن.
وقال رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر إن المشاهد الواردة من موقع تحطم الطائرة الهندية في أحمد آباد مفجعة ومحزنة للغاية، معرباً عن تضامنه العميق مع أسر الضحايا وكل من تأثر بهذه الحادثة المأساوية.
وأشارت الحكومة البريطانية إلى أنها تعمل بشكل عاجل مع السلطات الهندية لتقديم الدعم والمساعدة اللازمة عقب الحادثة، مبينة في بيان نشرته وزارة الخارجية البريطانية أنها على تواصل مستمر مع الحكومة الهندية لمعرفة ملابسات تحطم الطائرة وتفاصيل التحقيقات الجارية.
The Indian authorities announced that the plane that crashed today (Thursday) belonged to Air India, a Boeing 787-8 "Dreamliner," which was en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport in London, confirming that it crashed just minutes after taking off this afternoon.
The Indian authorities clarified that the aircraft was on flight number AI171 and was carrying 242 passengers at the time of the incident, noting that the ill-fated plane had 53 British, 7 Portuguese, 1 Canadian, and 169 Indians on board, in addition to its crew of 12 staff members.
They indicated that the plane issued a distress call to the control tower just before its crash, explaining that the ill-fated aircraft crashed into a residential building for doctors in Ahmedabad.
The Indian police reported that initial information suggests that the plane lost altitude suddenly after reaching about 825 feet, before crashing between 1 and 2 PM local time.
Rescue teams and ambulances rushed to the crash site. Several injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, while emergency teams continued their rescue operations.
The authorities closed the roads leading to the airport and the vicinity of the incident to facilitate the arrival of rescue teams, implementing traffic diversions to ease congestion.
The Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, expressed his shock, stating: "I feel deep sadness and concern regarding the plane crash in Ahmedabad. We are on high alert, and I am personally monitoring the situation," adding: "All relevant parties have been directed to intervene quickly and in a coordinated manner, and rescue and medical support teams are currently being sent to the site."
For its part, Gatwick Airport management issued a statement confirming that the plane was scheduled to land at 18:25 London time.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the scenes coming from the site of the Indian plane crash in Ahmedabad are devastating and extremely sad, expressing his deep solidarity with the victims' families and all those affected by this tragic incident.
The British government indicated that it is urgently working with the Indian authorities to provide the necessary support and assistance following the incident, stating in a statement published by the British Foreign Office that it is in continuous contact with the Indian government to understand the circumstances of the plane crash and the details of the ongoing investigations.
