ووفقا لثلاثة مصادر مطلعة تحدثت لموقع «أكسيوس»، جاءت المكالمة لتهدئة التوترات بين الرجلين بعد أسبوع من تبادل الانتقادات العلنية، خصوصا بشأن اعتراض ماسك على مشروع ترمب الضخم للضرائب والميزانية المعروف بـ«الفاتورة الجميلة».
ونقلت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» عن 3 مصادر مطلعة، أن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب تلقى اتصالاً هاتفياً من إيلون ماسك، في وقت متأخر من يوم الإثنين، قبل أن يعبّر الملياردير عن أسفه بشأن بعض المنشورات على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي الأسبوع الماضي.
وكان البيت الأبيض أعلن أن ترمب «يثمن» لمستشاره السابق إيلون ماسك إبداء «أسف» على بعض انتقاداته الأخيرة في سياق الخلاف العلني بينهما. وقالت المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض كارولاين ليفيت، إن «الرئيس يأخذ علما بالتصريح الذي أصدره إيلون هذا الصباح، وهو يثمّنه»، مضيفة أن الإدارة لم تباشر أي خطوة بشأن تهديد ترمب بفسخ عقود ماسك مع الحكومة.
وكان ترمب وصف رئيسة موظفي البيت الأبيض بأنها أقوى امرأة في العالم، ومازح بأن نفوذها هائل لدرجة أن "مكالمة هاتفية واحدة تُبيد دولةً بأكملها".

The White House announced that Trump "appreciates" his former advisor Elon Musk expressing "regret" over some of his recent criticisms in the context of their public dispute. White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated, "The president acknowledges the statement Elon made this morning, and he appreciates it," adding that the administration has not taken any steps regarding Trump's threat to terminate Musk's contracts with the government.
Trump described the White House Chief of Staff as the most powerful woman in the world, joking that her influence is so great that "one phone call can wipe out an entire country."
