أعلنت وزيرة الأمن الداخلي الأمريكية كريستي نويم، أن سلطات الهجرة الاتحادية احتجزت زوجة الرجل، المتهم بإلقاء زجاجات حارقة (مولوتوف) على متظاهرين في بولدر بولادية كولورادو، وأطفاله الخمسة.
وقالت نويم في منشور على منصة التواصل الاجتماعي «إكس» إن المسؤولين الاتحاديين يحققون أيضًا فيما إذا كانت عائلة محمد صبري سليمان على علم بخطته.
ويواجه سليمان، الذي يقول مسؤولون اتحاديون إنه مصري يقيم في الولايات المتحدة بشكل غير قانوني، اتهامات بإلقاء المواد الحارقة على مجموعة كانت تدعو إلى إطلاق سراح الأسرى الإسرائيليين في غزة، ما أسفر عن إصابة 12 منهم.
ويواجه اتهامات على مستوى الولاية وعلى المستوى الاتحادي فيما يتعلق بالهجوم. وقالت الشرطة إنه كان بحوزة سليمان، الذي تنكر في زي بستاني، 18 زجاجة حارقة لكنه ألقى اثنتين فقط خلال هجوم الأحد وهتف قائلًا «فلسطين حرة».
وكتبت الشرطة في إفادة خطية أن سليمان (45 عامًا) لم ينفذ خطته بالكامل «لأنه خاف ولم يؤذ أحدًا من قبل».
وكانت الزجاجتان الحارقتان اللتان ألقاهما على المجموعة المكونة من حوالي 20 شخصًا الذين كانوا ينظمون مظاهرتهم الأسبوعية كافيتين لإصابة أكثر من نصفهم، وقال المسؤولون إنه لم يعرب عن أي ندم على الهجوم.
ويحتجز سليمان على ذمة القضية بموجب كفالة قدرها 10 ملايين دولار. ورفضت محاميته، كاثرين هيرولد، التعليق، الإثنين، بعد جلسة استماع مثل فيها أمام قاضي الولاية. وجلسة الاستماع التالية له الخميس المقبل.
وانتقل سليمان، المولود في مصر، قبل ثلاث سنوات إلى كولورادو سبرينغز، حيث عاش مع زوجته وأطفاله الخمسة، وفقًا لوثائق المحكمة. وسبق له أن قضى 17 عامًا في الكويت.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced that federal immigration authorities have detained the wife of the man accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at protesters in Boulder, Colorado, along with their five children.
Noem stated in a post on the social media platform "X" that federal officials are also investigating whether Mohammed Sabri Suleiman's family was aware of his plan.
Suleiman, whom federal officials say is an Egyptian living in the U.S. illegally, faces charges of throwing incendiary materials at a group that was calling for the release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, resulting in injuries to 12 of them.
He faces state and federal charges related to the attack. Police said that Suleiman, who disguised himself as a gardener, had 18 Molotov cocktails but only threw two during the Sunday attack while shouting "Free Palestine."
The police wrote in a sworn affidavit that Suleiman (45 years old) did not carry out his plan fully "because he was scared and had never harmed anyone before."
The two Molotov cocktails he threw at the group of about 20 people who were holding their weekly protest were enough to injure more than half of them, and officials said he expressed no remorse for the attack.
Suleiman is being held on a $10 million bond. His attorney, Katherine Herold, declined to comment on Monday after a hearing in which he appeared before a state judge. His next hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Suleiman, born in Egypt, moved to Colorado Springs three years ago, where he lived with his wife and five children, according to court documents. He had previously spent 17 years in Kuwait.
