أعلنت السلطات، اليوم(الأحد)، في نيجيريا ارتفاع عدد ضحايا الفيضانات التي اجتاحت ولاية النيجر هذا الأسبوع إلى 151 قتيلاً، مؤكدة أن آلاف السكان أجبروا على مغادرة منازلهم المدمرة.
وأفاد مدير الإعلام في وكالة إدارة الطوارئ بولاية النيجر إبراهيم عودو حسيني، أمس السبت، بأن الحصيلة الجديدة تمثل ارتفاعاً عن العدد السابق الذي بلغ 117 قتيلاً، أمس الأول الجمعة. وأضاف أن أكثر من 500 أسرة تضررت من الفيضانات، في حين تجاوز عدد النازحين 3,000 شخص.
وضربت الفيضانات بلدة موكوا الواقعة وسط ولاية النيجر مساء الأربعاء الماضي، واستمرت حتى صباح الخميس، فيما تواصل فرق الإنقاذ عمليات البحث وسط الطين والركام عن جثث الضحايا.
يذكر أن نيجيريا تشهد فيضانات متكررة خلال موسم الأمطار الذي بدأ في أبريل الماضي، وشهدت البلاد خلال العام 2022، أسوأ موجة فيضانات منذ أكثر من عقد، أسفرت عن مقتل أكثر من 600 شخص، وتشريد نحو 1.4 مليون، إضافة إلى تدمير حوالى 440 ألف هكتار من الأراضي الزراعية.

The authorities announced today (Sunday) in Nigeria that the number of victims from the floods that swept through Niger State this week has risen to 151 dead, confirming that thousands of residents have been forced to leave their destroyed homes.
The Director of Media at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Oudu Hussaini, reported yesterday (Saturday) that the new toll represents an increase from the previous number of 117 dead, which was reported on Friday. He added that more than 500 families have been affected by the floods, while the number of displaced persons has exceeded 3,000.
The floods struck the town of Mokwa in central Niger State on Wednesday evening and continued until Thursday morning, while rescue teams continue their search for the bodies of the victims amid the mud and debris.
It is worth noting that Nigeria experiences recurring floods during the rainy season, which began last April. The country witnessed the worst wave of flooding in over a decade in 2022, resulting in the deaths of more than 600 people and displacing about 1.4 million, in addition to destroying approximately 440,000 hectares of farmland.
