ويتنافس في هذه الدورة الثانية رافال تشاسكوفكسي (53 عاماً)، رئيس بلدية وارسو المؤيد للاتحاد الأوروبي، مع المؤرخ القومي كارول ناوروتسكي (42 عاماً) المدعوم من حزب القانون والعدالة بزعامة الرئيس المحافظ المنتهية ولايته أندريه دودا.
وأظهرت استطلاعات الرأي منافسة شديدة مع حصول ناوروتسكي على 50.1% من نيات الأصوات، مقابل 49.9% لتشاسكوفكسي، بفارق ضئيل بينهما.
ومن المنتظر صدور استطلاع للرأي عند الخروج من مراكز الاقتراع بعد توقف عمليات التصويت، إلا أن النتائج النهائية لن تعرف قبل غد (الإثنين).
وفي حال فوز تشاسكوفسكي سيعطي ذلك دفعاً كبيراً للبرنامج التقدمي الذي تعتمده الحكومة برئاسة دونالد توسك، الرئيس السابق للمجلس الأوروبي.
فيما يمكن أن يعزز فوز ناوروتسكي موقع حزب القانون والعدالة الشعبوي الذي حكم بولندا بين 2015 و2023، وقد يؤدي إلى تنظيم انتخابات نيابية جديدة. ويؤيد العديد من أنصاره صدور تشريعات أكثر صرامة حول الهجرة وسيادة أوسع نطاقاً لبلدهم داخل الاتحاد الأوروبي.
ويرى مراقبون أن هذه الانتخابات عبارة عن صدام حضارات حقيقي بسبب الاختلافات الكبرى في السياسات بين المرشحين، إذ يؤيد العديد من ناخبي تشاسكوفسكي اندماجاً أكبر داخل الاتحاد الأوروبي وتسريع الإصلاحات الاجتماعية في البلد الذي يسجل نمواً اقتصادياً كبيراً.
وتلقى الانتخابات متابعة في أوكرانيا التي تسعى إلى تعزيز الدعم الدبلوماسي الدولي لها في مفاوضاتها الصعبة مع روسيا.
ويعارض كارول ناوروتسكي انضمام كييف إلى الحلف الأطلسي ويدعو إلى فرض قيود على الامتيازات الممنوحة لنحو مليون لاجئ أوكراني في بولندا.
وتعرض ناوروتسكي خلال الأيام الأخيرة لسيل من الاتهامات التي قد تطيح بأي سياسي تقليدي، وزعمت تقارير وسائل الإعلام أن سجله ليس نظيفاً تماماً، فهو معروف بولائه الشديد لنادي تشيلسي الإنجليزي، ومشجع متعصب لفريقه المحلي «ليخيا غدانسك»، وتربطه صلات بـ«جماعة مشاغبين متطرفة»، بحسب ما أوردت صحيفة «التايمز» اللندنية.
وتتوقف النتيجة النهائية للانتخابات على قدرة تشاسكوفسكي على تعبئة عدد كاف من المؤيدين، وعلى ما إذا كان ناخبو اليمين المتطرف يعتزمون تجيير أصواتهم لناوروتسكي.
وحصل مرشحو أقصى اليمين على أكثر من 21% من الأصوات في الدورة الأولى التي تصدرها تشاسكوفسكي بفارق ضئيل بحصوله على 31% من الأصوات مقابل 30% لناوروتسكي.
In this second round, Rafal Trzaskowski (53 years old), the pro-European Union mayor of Warsaw, competes against the nationalist historian Karol Nawrocki (42 years old), supported by the Law and Justice Party led by the outgoing conservative president Andrzej Duda.
Polls have shown a tight race, with Nawrocki receiving 50.1% of the intended votes, compared to 49.9% for Trzaskowski, with a slight margin between them.

If Trzaskowski wins, it will give a significant boost to the progressive agenda adopted by the government headed by Donald Tusk, the former president of the European Council.
Meanwhile, Nawrocki's victory could strengthen the position of the populist Law and Justice Party, which ruled Poland from 2015 to 2023, and may lead to new parliamentary elections. Karol Nawrocki opposes Kyiv's accession to NATO and calls for restrictions on the privileges granted to around one million Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
Nawrocki has faced a torrent of accusations in recent days that could topple any traditional politician, with media reports claiming that his record is not entirely clean; he is known for his strong loyalty to the English club Chelsea and is a fervent supporter of his local team, Lechia Gdańsk, with ties to an "extremist hooligan group," according to the London Times.
The final outcome of the election depends on Trzaskowski's ability to mobilize enough supporters and whether far-right voters intend to cast their votes for Nawrocki.
Far-right candidates received more than 21% of the votes in the first round, which was narrowly led by Trzaskowski, who garnered 31% of the votes compared to Nawrocki's 30%.
