وجهت محكمة دكا اليوم (الأحد)، رسمياً اتهامات لـ8 عناصر من الشرطة بقتل متظاهرين في الخامس من أغسطس العام الماضي، في أول محاكمة لمسؤولين سابقين كبار تابعين لنظام رئيسة الوزراء السابقة الشيخة حسينة.
وأعلن المدعي العام في بنغلاديش أن الـ8 عناصر متهمون بقتل المتظاهرين أثناء فرار حسينة من البلاد واقتحام المتظاهرين للقصر الرئاسي، بينهم 4 من العناصر مسجونون، فيما يحاكم 4 آخرون غيابياً، بينهم قائد شرطة دكا السابق حبيب الرحمن، بتهمة ارتكاب جرائم ضد الإنسانية.
وتعد هذه المحاكمة هي أول اتهام رسمي في القضية المتعلقة بالقتلى خلال انتفاضة قادها طلاب وأنهت 15 عاماً من حكم حسينة التي فرت من البلاد إلى الهند، ولا يزال القضاء يوجه للشيخة حسينة وعدد من وزرائها وزعماء حزبها وقوات الأمن تهماً بإصدار أوامر لقمع الاحتجاجات الصيف الماضي، مما أدى إلى مقتل 1400 شخص على الأقل في يوليو 2024، بحسب الأمم المتحدة.
وتشهد بنغلاديش أزمة سياسية بسبب الضغوطات التي تمارسها أحزاب مختلفة على محمد يونس (84 عاماً)، الحائز على جائزة نوبل، والذي تولى رئاسة الحكومة عقب سقوط حسينة.
وطلب يونس مهلة في اجتماع بالأحزاب، لكنه هدد بعدها بالاستقالة، وبحسب حكومته فإنه واجه مطالب غير معقولة وتصريحات استفزازية متعمدة أدت إلى إعاقة عمله بشكل مستمر.
والتقى يونس أمس (السبت)، زعماء الحزب القومي النافذ الذي يعتبر الأوفر حظاً في الانتخابات والجماعة الإسلامية، فيما قال الأمين العام لجماعة «حفظة الإسلام» مأمون الحق إنه سيشارك في هذه الجولة الجديدة من المحادثات التي ستركز على الأزمة الحالية.
The Dhaka court officially charged 8 police officers today (Sunday) with killing protesters on August 5 of last year, marking the first trial of senior officials from the administration of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Attorney General of Bangladesh announced that the 8 officers are accused of killing protesters while Hasina was fleeing the country and protesters stormed the presidential palace, with 4 of the officers currently imprisoned, while 4 others are being tried in absentia, including former Dhaka police chief Habib Rahman, on charges of committing crimes against humanity.
This trial is the first official charge in the case related to the deaths during an uprising led by students that ended 15 years of Hasina's rule, during which she fled to India. The judiciary continues to accuse Sheikh Hasina and several of her ministers, party leaders, and security forces of issuing orders to suppress protests last summer, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,400 people in July 2024, according to the United Nations.
Bangladesh is experiencing a political crisis due to pressures from various parties on Muhammad Yunus (84 years old), the Nobel laureate, who took over as head of government following Hasina's downfall.
Yunus requested a grace period in a meeting with the parties, but later threatened to resign. According to his government, he faced unreasonable demands and deliberately provocative statements that continuously hindered his work.
Yunus met yesterday (Saturday) with leaders of the influential nationalist party, which is considered the favorite in the elections, and the Islamic group, while the Secretary-General of the "Guardians of Islam" group, Mamun al-Haq, stated that he would participate in this new round of talks, which will focus on the current crisis.
