Israeli occupation forces fired live ammunition at a diplomatic delegation while they were at the entrance of the Jenin camp in the occupied West Bank today (Wednesday) to observe the tragic reality of the camp.
According to the Palestinian news agency (Wafa), the occupation soldiers present in the Jenin camp fired live bullets directly and intensively at the diplomatic delegation and a group of journalists while they were near the iron gate erected by the occupation at the entrance to the eastern camp.
The agency reported that the diplomatic delegation, which included ambassadors from Arab and foreign countries, visited the Jenin governorate headquarters, where they were briefed on the conditions of the city and the camp. The governor provided a detailed explanation of the city's economic situation, the impact of the aggression on the facilities of life in the city, the commercial losses, the destruction of infrastructure, and the conditions of about 22,000 displaced persons who were forced by the occupation to leave their homes and flee to the camp.
For its part, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the targeting of the diplomatic delegation, emphasizing in a statement that this aggressive act constitutes a blatant and serious violation of international law and the most basic rules of diplomatic relations as stipulated in the Vienna Convention of 1961, which guarantees protection and immunity for diplomatic missions and delegations.
It warned that targeting representatives of member states accredited to the State of Palestine is a dangerous escalation in the behavior of the occupation and reflects a systematic disregard for international law, the sovereignty of the State of Palestine, and the sanctity of representatives of countries on its territory.
The Israeli occupation government was held fully and directly responsible for this cowardly attack, affirming that it will not go unpunished. The ministry called on the international community, especially the countries to which the members of the targeted delegation belong, to take clear positions and deterrent measures against the occupation authorities and to put an end to their continued commission of crimes, including attacks on accredited diplomatic representatives.
For its part, the occupation army's radio quoted a security source claiming that the diplomatic delegation entered an area prohibited to entry in the Jenin camp.
The occupation army began a military aggression in January of last year in the northern West Bank from the city of Jenin and its camp and towns in their vicinity, and expanded its aggression to the city of Tulkarem.
The Israeli aggression on Tulkarem and its camps resulted in the deaths of 13 Palestinians, injuries and arrests of dozens, and the displacement of more than 4,200 families from the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps.
