اتّفقت الهند وباكستان اليوم (الثلاثاء) على سحب التعزيزات العسكرية الحدودية بحلول أواخر مايو الجاري، وبحسب مسؤول باكستاني، فإنه جرى الاتفاق على تدابير مباشرة لخفض عدد من الجنود المرسلين إلى الحدود.
وكان مسؤولون عسكريون رفيعو المستوى من البلدين قد عقدوا اجتماعاً عبر الهاتف اتفقوا خلاله على تدابير مباشرة التصعيد، على أن ينسحب الجنود تدريجاً للعودة إلى مواقع ما قبل النزاع بحلول أواخر مايو.
وقال المسؤول في تصريحات صحفية: كلّ هذه الترتيبات كان من المفترض أن تنجز في عشرة أيّام، لكن سُجّل تأخّر"
وستعود الدولتان إلى مواقع الانتشار في وقت السلم على طول حدودهما وخط المراقبة - الحدود الفعلية التي تقسم كشمير - بحلول نهاية مايو الجاري.
وأثارت المواجهة بين الهند وباكتسان مخاوف عالمية من احتمال اندلاع حرب شاملة، خصوصاً بعد إرسال الهند وباكستان تعزيزات عسكرية إلى الحدود، على طول خطّ الفصل في كشمير، لكنه وبعد أربعة أيام من الهجمات بالصواريخ والطائرات المسيَّرة والمدفعية أسفرت عن مقتل 60 شخصاً على الأقل ونزوح الآلاف من كلا الجانبين، أعلِن عن مبادرة في العاشر من مايو الجاري ليتبعها اتصالات عسكرية واجتماعات.
يذكر أن الهند وباكستان تتنازعان السيادة الكاملة على منطقة كشمير منذ الاستقلال عن الحكم البريطاني وتقسيمهما سنة 1947.
India and Pakistan agreed today (Tuesday) to withdraw military reinforcements along their border by the end of May, according to a Pakistani official, who stated that direct measures were agreed upon to reduce the number of soldiers sent to the border.
High-ranking military officials from both countries held a phone meeting during which they agreed on direct measures to de-escalate, with soldiers gradually withdrawing to pre-conflict positions by the end of May.
The official said in press statements: "All these arrangements were supposed to be completed in ten days, but a delay has been recorded."
The two countries will return to peacetime deployment positions along their borders and the Line of Control - the actual border dividing Kashmir - by the end of May.
The confrontation between India and Pakistan raised global concerns about the potential outbreak of a full-scale war, especially after both countries sent military reinforcements to the border along the Line of Control in Kashmir. However, after four days of rocket, drone, and artillery attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least 60 people and the displacement of thousands on both sides, an initiative was announced on May 10, followed by military communications and meetings.
It is worth noting that India and Pakistan have disputed full sovereignty over the Kashmir region since gaining independence from British rule and their partition in 1947.
