اعتبرت صحف عالمية أن رئيس وزراء الاحتلال الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو بات أمام قرار مصيري، فإما المضي في العملية العسكرية «عربات جدعون» أو قبول صفقة تبادل. وحذرت من مخاطر قانونية تواجه حلفاء إسرائيل بسبب عدم تحركهم لمنع «الإبادة الجماعية» في غزة.
ونقلت صحيفة «يديعوت أحرونوت» عن وزراء في حكومة الاحتلال قولهم: إن نتنياهو يواجه أحد أهم القرارات في مسيرته، فإما أن يمضي قُدما في المرحلة الأولى من خطة المبعوث الأمريكي للشرق الأوسط ستيفن ويتكوف، أو يذهب إلى «صفقة شاملة».
وأضافت أن عددا من وزراء الحكومة يرون أنه يجب إتمام أي صفقة في أقرب وقت، حتى لو كانت تشمل نصف الأسرى فقط، على أن يناقَش لاحقا احتمال التوصل إلى صفقة شاملة تتضمن «استسلام» حركة حماس وإنهاء الحرب.
واعتبرت صحيفة «هآرتس» أن عملية عربات جدعون التي بدأها الجيش الإسرائيلي الخميس في قطاع غزة لا تهدف إلى إطلاق سراح الأسرى أو توفير الأمن لمواطني إسرائيل. وأضافت أن هدف العملية في أفضل الأحوال هو الحفاظ على ائتلاف نتنياهو «المتطرف» من خلال تأجيل نهاية الحرب.
وحسب الصحيفة، فإنه في أسوأ الأحوال، وهو الأرجح إن الهدف منها هو دفع الجيش الإسرائيلي إلى ارتكاب جريمة حرب مروعة تتمثل في التطهير العرقي في القطاع بأسره أو في أجزاء منه.
وكشفت وسائل إعلام إسرائيلية انقساما حادا داخل الحكومة الإسرائيلية بشأن إمكانية التوصل لصفقة لتبادل الأسرى تتضمن إنهاء الحرب، بالتزامن مع فشل الائتلاف الحاكم في تمرير قرار تمديد تجنيد الاحتياط، وانتقادات من داخل حزب الليكود للخطط العسكرية الحالية.
وقالت إن مكتب نتنياهو أصدر بيانا جاء فيه أن الفريق المسؤول عن المحادثات لإطلاق سراح الأسرى ناقش التوصل إلى صفقة شاملة تتضمن أيضا إنهاء الحرب.
واعتبر مراسل الشؤون العسكرية في القناة الـ13 أور هيلر، أن ساعات حاسمة ينتظرها الجميع تفصل بين توسيع نطاق القتال والتوصل إلى اتفاق. ولفت إلى أن أنظار جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي تتجه إلى الدوحة لفهم ما إذا كان وفد التفاوض سينجح في التوصل إلى نوع من المرونة في المواقف مع حركة حماس.
ورأى أن المطلوب هو أن تتنازل حماس عن مطالبها بوقف الحرب بضمانات دولية، وأن توافق على مقترحات المبعوث الأمريكي للشرق الأوسط.
وتحت عنوان «حلفاء إسرائيل يواجهون خطر التواطؤ»، كتبت صحيفة «لوموند» الفرنسية أن إحجام الدول الغربية عن اتخاذ إجراءات ملموسة ضد إسرائيل على الرغم من قرار محكمة العدل الدولية الذي يعترف بخطر الإبادة الجماعية في غزة، يعرّضها لملاحقة قضائية بسبب فشلها في الوفاء بالتزاماتها الدولية.
وأضافت أن الاتحاد الأوروبي تلقى إخطارا رسميا بسبب فشله في الوفاء بالتزاماته بالتحرك في مواجهة خطر الإبادة الجماعية المؤكد في غزة.
Global newspapers have considered that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is faced with a fateful decision, either to proceed with the military operation "Gideon's Chariots" or accept a prisoner exchange deal. They warned of legal risks facing Israel's allies due to their inaction in preventing the "genocide" in Gaza.
The newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" quoted ministers in the occupying government as saying that Netanyahu is facing one of the most important decisions of his career, either to move forward with the first phase of the U.S. envoy to the Middle East Stephen Wittkoff's plan or to go for a "comprehensive deal."
It added that several government ministers believe that any deal should be completed as soon as possible, even if it only includes half of the prisoners, with the possibility of later discussing a comprehensive deal that includes the "surrender" of Hamas and the end of the war.
The newspaper "Haaretz" considered that the Gideon's Chariots operation, which the Israeli army began on Thursday in the Gaza Strip, does not aim to release prisoners or provide security for Israeli citizens. It added that the goal of the operation, at best, is to maintain Netanyahu's "extreme" coalition by delaying the end of the war.
According to the newspaper, in the worst-case scenario, which is more likely, the aim is to push the Israeli army to commit a horrific war crime represented by ethnic cleansing in the entire sector or in parts of it.
Israeli media revealed a sharp division within the Israeli government regarding the possibility of reaching a prisoner exchange deal that includes ending the war, coinciding with the ruling coalition's failure to pass a decision to extend reserve recruitment, and criticisms from within the Likud party regarding current military plans.
It stated that Netanyahu's office issued a statement saying that the team responsible for the talks to release prisoners discussed reaching a comprehensive deal that also includes ending the war.
Military affairs correspondent for Channel 13, Or Heller, considered that critical hours await everyone, separating the expansion of fighting from reaching an agreement. He pointed out that the Israeli Defense Forces are looking towards Doha to understand whether the negotiating delegation will succeed in achieving some flexibility in positions with Hamas.
He saw that what is required is for Hamas to concede its demands for a ceasefire with international guarantees and to agree to the proposals of the U.S. envoy to the Middle East.
Under the title "Israel's Allies Face the Danger of Complicity," the French newspaper "Le Monde" wrote that the reluctance of Western countries to take concrete action against Israel despite the International Court of Justice's ruling recognizing the risk of genocide in Gaza exposes them to legal action for failing to meet their international obligations.
It added that the European Union received an official notification due to its failure to fulfill its obligations to act against the confirmed risk of genocide in Gaza.
