The eyes are on the Iraqi capital, which will host the 34th ordinary Arab summit tomorrow (Saturday), marking the fourth time Baghdad has hosted this event. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that the level of participation will be significant and intensive, anticipating the issuance of exceptional decisions.
A number of Arab delegation heads are expected to arrive in Baghdad today (Friday) to participate in the Arab summit.
The Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and crises in Arab affairs are among the main topics that Arab presidents, kings, and princes will discuss, in addition to Iraqi initiatives that include establishing Arab centers in the fields of combating terrorism, drugs, and national crime, as well as a security coordination room and a cooperation fund for reconstruction and the aftermath of crises.
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stated during a meeting with the official media delegation of the Arab League: "Baghdad's hosting of the summit comes from its pivotal role and its constant endeavor to strengthen joint action to face the challenges facing the region, and to enhance cooperation and coordination among brothers in a way that preserves the interests of our peoples and meets their aspirations for development, prosperity, and peace."
He added that the Baghdad summit will discuss vital issues related to the peoples of the region and will result in decisions that contribute to achieving peace and stability.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed hope that the Baghdad summit would emerge with "a unified message calling for an immediate halt to the genocide and putting an end to the plans of right-wing extremists in the Israeli occupation government, which has proven that it knows no end or goal other than the continuation of violence and tension, not only in Palestine but also in Syria and Lebanon."
He said: "Our message must be one, and our vision for our common issues must be unified. We must always start from strengthening Arab national security in its comprehensive sense, and that the crises in Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and Libya affect Arab collective security and threaten the stability of the region."
For his part, Iraqi Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Hisham Al-Alawi stated that "Iraq is working to seize the opportunity of holding the summit to highlight the positive developments that have occurred over the past few years and to give our guests a chance to explore the cultural, civilizational, historical, and religious landmarks present in Baghdad."
He mentioned that the Iraqi government is striving to promote increased Arab investments, emphasizing that Iraq is keen to attract more investments to develop various sectors, including renewable energy, agriculture, industry, tourism, and the financial and banking sector, in line with the government's priorities, which reflects on providing job opportunities for youth.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Iraqi government, Basem Al-Awadi, spoke about the representation of all Arab countries at the Baghdad summit, the attendance of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the European Union, the African Union, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in addition to the presence of the Prime Minister of Spain.
He announced that the Iraqi government has granted licenses for the attendance of more than 300 Iraqi journalists, 250 journalists and media personnel from outside the country, and 20 organizations and unions affiliated with the Arab League, in addition to organizing extensive celebratory events. He confirmed that "Baghdad is ready with all its institutions to welcome the Arab delegations at the Baghdad summit."
