في مأساة إنسانية كبرى، ارتفعت حصيلة ضحايا زلزال أفغانستان إلى 622 قتيلا و 1500 مصاب، وفق ما أعلنته وزارة الداخلية التابعة لحكومة طالبان استنادًا إلى إحصاءات أولية.
الزلزال القوي الذي بلغت شدته 6.0 درجات على مقياس ريختر ضرب شرق أفغانستان فجر اليوم (الإثنين) ووقع في محيط مدينة جلال آباد، وأدى إلى انهيار منازل ومبانٍ بشكل واسع، فيما شعر السكان بهزاته حتى في المناطق الحدودية داخل باكستان المجاورة. وأظهرت الصور التي التقطتها وكالات الأنباء جنودًا ومدنيين وهم يحملون ضحايا على نقالات إلى سيارات الإسعاف في مطار جلال آباد، وسط أجواء من الذهول والحزن.
وتتوقع السلطات الأفغانية ارتفاع عدد الضحايا مع استمرار عمليات البحث والإنقاذ بين الأنقاض في القرى النائية، حيث يصعب وصول فرق الإغاثة بسبب ضعف البنية التحتية وانقطاع الطرق.
وتأتي هذه الكارثة لتفاقم الأوضاع الإنسانية المتردية أصلًا في أفغانستان، التي تعاني من أزمات اقتصادية وصحية حادة، فيما ناشدت منظمات محلية ودولية المجتمع الدولي تقديم مساعدات عاجلة للمنكوبين.

The powerful earthquake, which registered 6.0 on the Richter scale, struck eastern Afghanistan early today (Monday) and occurred around the city of Jalalabad, leading to widespread collapse of homes and buildings, while residents felt its tremors even in the bordering areas of neighboring Pakistan. Images captured by news agencies showed soldiers and civilians carrying victims on stretchers to ambulances at Jalalabad Airport, amidst an atmosphere of shock and sorrow.
The Afghan authorities expect the death toll to rise as search and rescue operations continue among the rubble in remote villages, where relief teams struggle to reach due to poor infrastructure and blocked roads.
This disaster comes to exacerbate the already deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan, which is suffering from severe economic and health crises, while local and international organizations have appealed to the international community for urgent assistance to the affected.
