- A presidential visit that consolidates partnership and consensus
- Cooperation that goes beyond traditional partnership
The Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Jeddah for a high-level official visit aimed at enhancing the long-standing relations between Riyadh and Jakarta. The visit focuses on several vital issues, most notably food security, technology, new industries, and matters related to Hajj and Umrah.
Dr. Muhammad Hidayat Noor, Vice President of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly, confirmed that the presidential visit reflects the depth of bilateral relations and translates the mutual desire to build sustainable strategic partnerships between the two countries.
The visit also aims to maximize comprehensive economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the fields of food security, technology, and industrial investment. Jakarta seeks to attract direct Saudi investments to increase the production of essential goods, especially wheat, corn, and rice, amid Indonesia's growing need to secure food supply chains and provide local strategic alternatives.
Saudi Arabia is considered a key partner in this endeavor and shows interest in expanding its investment presence in Asia, particularly in value-added agricultural and manufacturing sectors. Indonesia is also looking forward to Saudi partnerships in new industries and technology, including digital transformation, agricultural technologies, and clean energy, reflecting the convergence of the two countries' visions towards a diverse and sustainable economy.
Indonesian government sources expect the visit to result in the signing of several memorandums of understanding and joint investments, covering the food and technology sectors, in addition to developing logistical initiatives and supply chains that connect the two countries to Southeast Asian and Gulf markets.
On another note, the issue of Indonesian pilgrims is at the forefront of the visit's agenda, as Jakarta aims to enhance the experience of its pilgrims in the Kingdom, in coordination and cooperation with the relevant authorities in the Kingdom.
The president was accompanied by an official delegation from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Hajj Foundation to hold discussions with their Saudi counterparts. Upon the president's arrival at his residence in Jeddah, he met with several members of the Indonesian community, who expressed their happiness with the visit and their hope that it would contribute to strengthening the bonds of understanding and communication between the two brotherly peoples.

In a previous interview with "Okaz," the Indonesian Ambassador to Riyadh, Abdulaziz Ahmad, emphasized that Saudi-Indonesian relations are witnessing unprecedented growth on all levels, noting that the two countries share common aspirations in development issues, youth empowerment, and enhancing cooperation between the private sectors.
The ambassador explained that Jakarta sees Riyadh as a reliable partner in food security, technology exchange, and investment, and that there is Indonesian interest in increasing the benefits from Saudi expertise in renewable energy, infrastructure, and smart city management.
He added that the number of pilgrims and Umrah performers from Indonesia has exceeded two million visitors annually in recent years, and that the Kingdom has provided major logistical and organizational facilities, praising the qualitative initiatives launched by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj to improve the experience of the guests of the Most Merciful.
The visit also comes within the context of the convening of the Supreme Coordinating Council between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, which was launched in 2023, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the fields of energy, minerals, human development, investment, education, as well as food security and modern technologies.
President Prabowo's visit to Jeddah, as seen by observers, is considered a qualitative milestone in the trajectory of Saudi-Indonesian relations, opening wide horizons for a strategic partnership that integrates the interests of both countries and supports their stability and growth amid regional and international challenges.
