The Emir of the Eastern Province, Chairman of the Traffic Safety Committee, Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, chaired a meeting of the Traffic Safety Committee today (Sunday) at the Emirate's Diwan, with the attendance of the Deputy Emir of the Eastern Province, Vice Chairman of the Committee, Prince Saud bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, and committee members from various agencies.

The Emir of the Eastern Province emphasized the leadership's commitment to enhancing traffic safety concepts, stemming from its significant concern for protecting lives and preserving the nation's resources. He praised the positive results achieved thanks to the joint efforts between the concerned parties and the implementation of qualitative initiatives and strategic projects that contributed to enhancing road safety and reducing traffic accidents.

The Emir of the Eastern Province stressed the importance of continued cooperation and the integration of roles among the relevant entities to achieve further reductions in accident rates and to elevate the level of awareness and traffic behavior among road users, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in building safe and sustainable communities.

The Secretary-General of the Traffic Safety Committee in the Eastern Province, Abdullah Al-Rajhi, reviewed traffic performance indicators, noting that serious accidents during the first nine months of 2025 decreased by 12% compared to the same period in 2024, while the number of fatalities dropped by 6% and severe injuries by 21%, as a result of the integrated efforts made by the committee's member entities.

Al-Rajhi pointed out that the meeting discussed field efforts in regulatory, engineering, awareness, and emergency aspects, as security field campaigns contributed to reducing dangerous traffic behaviors and raising the level of compliance and discipline, alongside community awareness programs directed at various categories of drivers and road users. He indicated that the committee worked on addressing 232 black spot locations and improving 589 locations around schools, as part of plans to enhance safety levels in the vicinity of educational facilities and vital roads.

He added that awareness and emergency efforts formed a key focus of the committee's work, as more than 2,600 training courses and programs were implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Eastern Province and Al-Ahsa, benefiting over 300,000 individuals.

He also noted that the committee is monitoring the implementation of solutions to regulate truck movement on urban roads in coordination with the Eastern Province Municipality and security agencies, which has contributed to improving traffic flow and significantly reducing congestion. Additionally, intensive field campaigns were conducted in collaboration with the sub-traffic safety committees in the governorates to prevent the sale of damaged and used tires, with over 1,000 centers inspected and more than 40,000 violating tires confiscated since the start of the campaigns.
