تحول الزحام المروري في محافظة جدة إلى حالة مقلقة للكثير من سكانها الذين يعانون الأمرّين خلال تنقلاتهم اليومية طوال فترات اليوم. ويعاني سكان وزوار جدة من الزحام المروري بشكل يومي، خصوصاً في أوقات الذروة، فتشهد طرقاتها ازدحاماً كبيراً خصوصاً على محاورها الرئيسية؛ طريق الأمير محمد بن عبدالعزيز (التحلية)، طريق الملك فهد (الستين)، شارع الأمير ماجد، طريق الحرمين، طريق المدينة المنورة، الأندلس، فلسطين، طريق الكورنيش.
الازدحام المروري طوال فترات اليوم يستدعي حاجة ملحّة لتوسعة الطرق الرئيسية، وسرعة إنجاز المشاريع المستقبلية المعتزم تنفيذها ومنها؛ المحور الشرقي، جسر أبحر، طريق جدة-مكة المباشر، طريق الملك سلمان، توسعة طريق جدة-عسفان.كما يعد الازدحام المروري مؤشراً مهماً نحو تعديل ساعات الدوام، أو الاعتماد على العمل عن بعد في بعض الجهات والقطاع الخاص. ويشير عبدالملك الشهري إلى أن بعض الشوارع الرئيسية تحتاج إلى تطويرها، فرغم المشاريع الكبيرة التي تشهدها المحافظة إلا أن تلك الطرقات لم تعد ملائمة للزيادة الكبيرة في عدد المركبات، وانتقال سكان أحياء جدة الجنوبية للسكن شرق وشمال المحافظة، ما يعزز ضرورة إيجاد طرق بديلة تستوعب هذه المتغيرات.
وتؤكد سارة البلوي أن محافظة جدة تعاني من نقص شبكة الطرق البديلة، فقلّة الطرق البديلة التي يمكن أن تخفف الضغط عن الشوارع الرئيسية، إضافة إلى تزامن أوقات الدوام وتوافق أوقات انصراف الطلاب والموظفين، تؤدي إلى ضغط كبير على الطرق.
وأضافت البلوي: شهدت محافظة جدة خلال السنوات الأخيرة هجرة سكان الأحياء العشوائية التي تمت إزالتها إلى أحياء أخرى، ما زاد من كثافة المركبات في بعض المناطق.
وتحدث سعيد الغامدي عن زحام جدة مشيراً إلى أنه لم يعد وقتياً فهو على مدار اليوم، وعلى الكثير من المحاور الرئيسية، إلا أنه توافق هذا الأسبوع مع الإجازة المطولة للمدارس، وإجازة نهاية الأسبوع.واقترح الغامدي تغيير ساعات الدوام الرسمي للجامعات والشركات والجهات الحكومية، لتوزيع الحركة المرورية على أوقات مختلفة، أو الاعتماد على نظام الدوام المرن والعمل عن بعد.
وبيّن الغامدي: نعاني نحن سكان أحياء جدة الشرقية من أزمة مرورية كبيرة طوال اليوم، في ظل وجود 3 مخارج رئيسية فقط لأحياء السامر والمنار والأجواد والواحة، ليضاف لها أخيراً حي سندس والحي الجديد خلف مول الياسمين، مضيفاً: يشكل الخروج أو الدخول قلقاً لجميع سكان هذه الأحياء.
The traffic congestion in Jeddah Governorate has become a concerning issue for many of its residents who face significant difficulties during their daily commutes throughout the day. Residents and visitors of Jeddah suffer from traffic congestion on a daily basis, especially during peak hours, with major roads experiencing heavy traffic, particularly on its main routes: Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Road (Tahlia), King Fahd Road (Sixty), Prince Majid Street, Haramain Road, Medina Road, Andalus, Palestine, and the Corniche Road.
The traffic congestion throughout the day necessitates an urgent need to widen the main roads and expedite the completion of future projects planned for implementation, including the Eastern Axis, Abhur Bridge, the direct Jeddah-Makkah Road, King Salman Road, and the expansion of the Jeddah-Asfan Road. Traffic congestion is also an important indicator for adjusting working hours or relying on remote work in some sectors and the private sector. Abdul Malik Al-Shahri points out that some main streets need to be developed; despite the large projects taking place in the governorate, these roads have become inadequate for the significant increase in the number of vehicles and the movement of residents from southern Jeddah neighborhoods to live in the east and north of the governorate, which reinforces the necessity of finding alternative routes to accommodate these changes. Sarah Al-Balawi confirms that Jeddah Governorate suffers from a lack of alternative road networks, as the few alternative roads that could alleviate pressure on the main streets, combined with the overlap of working hours and the coinciding times of student and employee dismissals, lead to significant pressure on the roads. Al-Balawi added: In recent years, Jeddah Governorate has witnessed an influx of residents from the informal neighborhoods that have been removed to other neighborhoods, which has increased vehicle density in some areas.
Saeed Al-Ghamdi spoke about the congestion in Jeddah, indicating that it is no longer temporary but persists throughout the day on many main routes. However, this week coincided with the extended school holiday and the weekend. Al-Ghamdi suggested changing the official working hours for universities, companies, and government entities to distribute traffic flow over different times or relying on a flexible working system and remote work. Al-Ghamdi explained: We, the residents of the eastern neighborhoods of Jeddah, suffer from a significant traffic crisis throughout the day, given that there are only 3 main exits for the neighborhoods of Al-Samer, Al-Manar, Al-Ajwad, and Al-Waha, with the addition of the new Sundus neighborhood and the new neighborhood behind Al-Yasmeen Mall, adding: Exiting or entering is a concern for all residents of these neighborhoods.
