حلّ المندوب الدائم السابق للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى الأمم المتحدة السفير عبدالله بن يحيى المعلمي، ضيفًا على مسرح فعاليات معرض الرياض الدولي للكتاب 2025، الذي تنظمه هيئة الأدب والنشر والترجمة خلال الفترة من 2 إلى 11 أكتوبر في جامعة الأميرة نورة بنت عبدالرحمن بالرياض، في جلسة حوارية بعنوان «هل هي أمم متحدة»؟ أدارها الإعلامي هادي بن حسن الفقيه، تناولت خبايا وكواليس العمل داخل أروقة الأمم المتحدة، وآليات صناعة القرار الدولي، والدور السعودي في صياغة المواقف داخل المنظمة، وذلك بحضور عددٍ من المهتمين بالعلاقات الدولية والدبلوماسية والباحثين في الشؤون السياسية.
واستهلّ المعلمي حديثه بالإشارة إلى أن منظمة الأمم المتحدة ليست كتلةً واحدةً متجانسة كما يظن البعض، بل تتأثر بتوازنات المصالح الدولية وبنفوذ الدول الكبرى، موضحًا أن العمل داخل المنظمة يتطلب قراءةً دقيقة للتوجهات السياسية للدول الأعضاء، وبناء التحالفات الذكية التي تضمن تمرير القرارات أو تعطيلها وفق المصلحة الوطنية.
وتطرّق إلى طبيعة الدور السعودي في الأمم المتحدة، مبينًا أن المملكة عملت باستمرار على الدفاع عن القضايا العربية والإسلامية، وفي مقدمتها القضية الفلسطينية، إلى جانب إسهاماتها في دعم الأمن والسلم الدوليين ومساندة الشعوب في أزماتها، كما استعرض أبرز المواقف التي خاضتها الدبلوماسية السعودية في ملفات حساسة كالأزمة السورية واليمنية والمصرية، مؤكدًا أن المملكة كانت دائمًا منحازة للشعوب ومصلحة الاستقرار العربي.
الدبلوماسية السعودية تقوم على الاتساق مع مبادئها الثابتة
وسلّط السفير المعلمي الضوء على جانب من تجربته الشخصية في التمثيل الدبلوماسي داخل الأمم المتحدة، مشيرًا إلى أن العمل في أروقة المنظمة يتجاوز الخطابات الرسمية إلى جهودٍ تفاوضية دقيقة تُدار خلف الكواليس، وأن النجاح الدبلوماسي يعتمد على الإقناع والمرونة والقدرة على قراءة موازين القوى في كل لحظة. واستعرض بعض المواقف التي استخدم فيها الأدب والشعر العربي في خطبه، لإضفاء بُعدٍ إنساني وثقافي على المداولات السياسية، موضحًا أن اللغة الرفيعة تمنح السياسة روحًا وتجعل صوت العدالة أكثر تأثيرًا في المحافل الدولية.
وأكد أن الدبلوماسية السعودية تقوم على الاتساق مع مبادئها الثابتة، وعلى التنسيق العربي المشترك، مشيرًا إلى أن المجموعة العربية في الأمم المتحدة تتبنى نهجًا موحدًا يقوم على طرح القضايا التي تحظى بإجماع، وتجنّب نقل الخلافات الداخلية إلى المنابر الدولية، كما تحدّث عن مشاركة المرأة السعودية في العمل الدبلوماسي، كاشفًا أن وزارة الخارجية أعدّت أول دفعة من الدبلوماسيات السعوديات من خلال برامج تدريبية متقدمة في الرياض ونيويورك وجامعة كولومبيا، أسهمت في إعداد كوادر نسائية مُشَرِّفة تمثل المملكة في مواقع دولية مؤثرة.
وحول واقع الأمم المتحدة ومستقبل النظام الدولي ودور الدول النامية في التأثير على قراراته، أوضح المعلمي أن الإصلاح داخل المنظمة ممكن، لكنه يتطلب إرادةً سياسية جماعية ورؤيةً عادلة تضمن تمثيلًا متوازنًا لكل الأطراف.
واختُتمت الجلسة بالتأكيد على أن المملكة العربية السعودية ستظل ركيزةً أساسية في منظومة العمل الدولي، منطلقةً من رؤيتها التي توازن بين المبادئ والقيم والمصالح المشتركة، وأن رؤية المملكة 2030 تعزّز حضورها الدبلوماسي العالمي عبر نهجٍ قيمي وإنساني يعلي من شأن الحوار والتعاون في خدمة السلام والتنمية.
يُذكر أن معرض الرياض الدولي للكتاب 2025 يُقام تحت شعار «الرياض تقرأ»، الذ ي أطلقته هيئة الأدب والنشر والترجمة، بهدف تعزيز شغف القراءة والمعرفة وتشجيع الثقافة والإبداع لدى جميع فئات المجتمع، وتوفير منصة للتفاعل مع المبدعين والمؤلفين ودور النشر من مختلف أنحاء العالم.
The former permanent representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallimi, was a guest at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025, organized by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission from October 2 to 11 at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh. He participated in a panel discussion titled "Is it a United Nations?" moderated by media figure Hadi bin Hassan Al-Faqih, which addressed the intricacies and behind-the-scenes workings within the United Nations, the mechanisms of international decision-making, and Saudi Arabia's role in shaping positions within the organization, attended by a number of individuals interested in international relations, diplomacy, and political research.
Al-Muallimi began his talk by pointing out that the United Nations is not a homogeneous block as some might think; rather, it is influenced by the balance of international interests and the influence of major countries. He clarified that working within the organization requires a precise reading of the political orientations of member states and building smart alliances that ensure the passage or obstruction of decisions according to national interests.
He touched upon the nature of Saudi Arabia's role in the United Nations, indicating that the Kingdom has consistently worked to defend Arab and Islamic issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, alongside its contributions to supporting international peace and security and assisting peoples in crises. He also reviewed the key positions taken by Saudi diplomacy on sensitive issues such as the Syrian, Yemeni, and Egyptian crises, emphasizing that the Kingdom has always sided with peoples and the interests of Arab stability.
Saudi Diplomacy is Based on Consistency with Its Established Principles
Ambassador Al-Muallimi highlighted aspects of his personal experience in diplomatic representation within the United Nations, noting that work in the organization's corridors goes beyond official speeches to include precise negotiation efforts managed behind the scenes. He stated that diplomatic success relies on persuasion, flexibility, and the ability to read the balance of power at every moment. He recounted instances where he used Arabic literature and poetry in his speeches to add a human and cultural dimension to political discussions, explaining that elevated language gives politics a spirit and makes the voice of justice more impactful in international forums.
He affirmed that Saudi diplomacy is based on consistency with its established principles and on joint Arab coordination, pointing out that the Arab group in the United Nations adopts a unified approach based on presenting issues that enjoy consensus and avoiding the transfer of internal disputes to international platforms. He also spoke about the participation of Saudi women in diplomatic work, revealing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared the first batch of Saudi female diplomats through advanced training programs in Riyadh, New York, and Columbia University, contributing to the preparation of distinguished female cadres representing the Kingdom in influential international positions.
Regarding the reality of the United Nations, the future of the international system, and the role of developing countries in influencing its decisions, Al-Muallimi clarified that reform within the organization is possible but requires collective political will and a fair vision that ensures balanced representation for all parties.
The session concluded with an affirmation that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will remain a fundamental pillar in the international work system, based on its vision that balances principles, values, and common interests, and that Vision 2030 enhances its global diplomatic presence through a values-based and humanitarian approach that elevates dialogue and cooperation in the service of peace and development.
It is worth mentioning that the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025 is held under the slogan "Riyadh Reads," launched by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, aimed at enhancing the passion for reading and knowledge, encouraging culture and creativity among all segments of society, and providing a platform for interaction with creators, authors, and publishing houses from around the world.
