أكد المندوب الدائم للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى الأمم المتحدة السفير الدكتور عبدالعزيز بن محمد الواصل، أن توليه منصب نائب رئيس الجمعية العامة خلال الدورة الثمانين الحالية يعكس الدور المحوري للمملكة على الصعيد الدبلوماسي الدولي، ويجسّد التزامها العميق بتعزيز الدبلوماسية متعددة الأطراف، وترسيخ مبادئ التعاون الدولي لمواجهة التحديات المشتركة.
وأوضح السفير الواصل في تصريح لوكالة الأنباء السعودية، على هامش الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة المنعقدة حاليًا في نيويورك، أن هذه المسؤولية تمثل ثقة المجتمع الدولي في مكانة المملكة وريادتها السياسية، وقدرتها على بناء جسور الحوار بين الدول، والعمل على تعزيز الاستقرار والسلم الدوليين عبر آليات أممية قائمة على التوافق والاحترام المتبادل.
وأشار إلى أن المملكة تضع القضية الفلسطينية في صميم أولوياتها السياسية والدبلوماسية، وتعمل باستمرار على حشد المواقف الدولية لدعم نضال الشعب الفلسطيني لنيل حقوقه المشروعة، مؤكدًا دعم المملكة المتواصل لإقامة دولة فلسطين المستقلة على حدود 1967 وعاصمتها القدس الشرقية.
ونوّه مندوب المملكة الدائم لدى الأمم المتحدة برئاسة المملكة المشتركة مع فرنسا للمؤتمر الدولي الخاص بتسوية القضية الفلسطينية وتنفيذ حل الدولتين، الذي أسهم في إحياء الزخم السياسي الدولي وتحفيز الأطراف كافة على تحمل مسؤولياتهم نحو تحقيق سلام عادل وشامل في المنطقة، إضافة إلى دور المملكة في تشجيع دول العالم على الاعتراف بدولة فلسطين.
ولفت النظر إلى سجل المملكة البارز في الوساطة وحل النزاعات على الصعيدين الإقليمي والدولي، مشيرًا إلى مبادراتها السياسية والإنسانية المتعددة خلال السنوات الماضية لرأب الصدع وتخفيف حدة الأزمات وتشجيع الأطراف على الحوار من خلال الأمم المتحدة.
كما شدد على أن السلام لا ينفصل عن التنمية، مبينًا أن المملكة تواصل جهودها في مجالات الطاقة المتجددة وتمكين المرأة والشباب والسياحة المستدامة، إضافة إلى مبادراتها في الصحة والتعليم والتنمية الاجتماعية، بما يسهم في تحقيق الاستقرار والسلام إقليميًا ودوليًا.
وتطرق السفير الواصل إلى الدور الرئيس للمملكة في تعزيز التعاون الدولي عبر الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الإرهاب والتطرف، ورئاستها المجلس الاستشاري لمركز الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الإرهاب، فضلًا عن دعمها مبادرات تعزيز الحوار بين الثقافات والأديان من خلال مركز الملك عبدالله العالمي للحوار بين أتباع الأديان والثقافات، ومساندتها لبرامج تحالف الحضارات التابع للأمم المتحدة.
وأكد أن رؤية المملكة المستقبلية تدعم جهود إصلاح الأمم المتحدة، لتكون أكثر قدرة على مواجهة التحديات العالمية في مجالات السلم والأمن والتنمية والبيئة، مشيرًا إلى أن المملكة تشارك بفاعلية في النقاشات الدولية لتعزيز دور المنظمة في تنسيق الجهود الدولية نحو تسوية النزاعات وتحقيق التنمية المستدامة من أجل مستقبل أكثر استقرارًا وعدلًا وازدهارًا.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasel, confirmed that his assumption of the position of Vice President of the General Assembly during the current 80th session reflects the pivotal role of the Kingdom on the international diplomatic stage and embodies its deep commitment to enhancing multilateral diplomacy and solidifying the principles of international cooperation to address common challenges.
Ambassador Al-Wasel explained in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly currently taking place in New York, that this responsibility represents the trust of the international community in the Kingdom's status and political leadership, as well as its ability to build bridges of dialogue between countries and work to enhance international stability and peace through UN mechanisms based on consensus and mutual respect.
He pointed out that the Kingdom places the Palestinian issue at the core of its political and diplomatic priorities, continuously working to rally international positions to support the Palestinian people's struggle for their legitimate rights, affirming the Kingdom's ongoing support for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations highlighted the joint presidency of the Kingdom and France for the international conference aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue and implementing the two-state solution, which contributed to reviving international political momentum and motivating all parties to take responsibility towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region, in addition to the Kingdom's role in encouraging countries around the world to recognize the State of Palestine.
He noted the Kingdom's prominent record in mediation and conflict resolution at both regional and international levels, referring to its various political and humanitarian initiatives over the past years to mend rifts, alleviate the severity of crises, and encourage dialogue among parties through the United Nations.
He also emphasized that peace is inseparable from development, indicating that the Kingdom continues its efforts in the fields of renewable energy, empowering women and youth, and sustainable tourism, in addition to its initiatives in health, education, and social development, contributing to achieving stability and peace both regionally and internationally.
Ambassador Al-Wasel addressed the Kingdom's key role in enhancing international cooperation through the United Nations to combat terrorism and extremism, its presidency of the Advisory Council of the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism, as well as its support for initiatives that promote dialogue between cultures and religions through the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, and its support for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations programs.
He affirmed that the Kingdom's future vision supports efforts to reform the United Nations to make it more capable of facing global challenges in the areas of peace, security, development, and the environment, noting that the Kingdom actively participates in international discussions to enhance the organization's role in coordinating international efforts towards conflict resolution and achieving sustainable development for a more stable, just, and prosperous future.
