The Saudi project Masam in Yemen has successfully removed more than 515,219 mines and unexploded ordnance, and has managed to clear 70,595,567 square meters of Yemeni land, which has prevented humanitarian disasters that could have claimed the lives of hundreds of Yemenis in various cities, rural areas, and mountains.
Masam is considered one of the prominent Saudi humanitarian projects that has played a significant role in protecting the lives of Yemenis and has contributed to enhancing stability and development in several liberated provinces. The Yemeni people continue to place great hopes on it to remove more mines that threaten their lives, and they urge international organizations to follow the example of Saudi Arabia, which has saved thousands of families, and to establish similar large humanitarian projects that will benefit the Yemeni people with goodness, growth, prosperity, and the normalization of life and reconstruction.
The work of the Saudi project is not limited to a specific area or province but has extended to various regions, districts, and rural areas in Yemen, contributing to the return of thousands of displaced families to their homes, farms, and coasts, which has helped fishermen return to their profession at sea and alleviated much of the suffering of families who have lived for years facing hunger, poverty, and deprivation of their possessions and sources of income.
The Director General of the Masam Mine Clearance Project in Yemen, Osama bin Yusuf Al-Qusaibi, recently launched the project’s operations in the Midi District of Hajjah Governorate, following a field survey of mine-infested areas over several months.
Al-Qusaibi confirmed that the project, in addition to mine clearance, works to educate Yemenis about mines and their dangers, explaining that the Masam project operates under the umbrella of the Saudi government represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and coordinates with the Yemeni government on all humanitarian and developmental projects.
The project consists of 32 field teams in addition to two special mission teams, and the number of workers in Masam exceeds 550, including Saudi and international experts, deminers, and those working in logistics and the administrative apparatus of the project.
The project’s work has covered 11 governorates, and it is the only and first project that has reached Yemen and has actively contributed to protecting Yemenis.
