كشف وزير الداخلية اللبناني أحمد الحجار، أن السلطات الأمنية في البلاد ضبطت ما يقارب 6 ملايين و500 ألف حبة كبتاغون مخدرة جرى تحضيرها من أجل تهريبها إلى السعودية عبر مرفأ بيروت، وجرى السيطرة على الشحنة المعدة للتهريب قبل وصولها إلى المرفأ.
وأوقفت الأجهزة الأمنية الشبكة المعنية بالتهريب بعد متابعة نشاطاتها لمدة استمرت نحو أشهر إذ كانت تنفذ عملياتها بين لبنان وتركيا وأستراليا والأردن، وتشكل خطراً واسع النطاق، وفقاً للحجار.
وفي وقت سابق، أكد وزير الداخلية اللبناني أن بلاده تنسق مع الرياض في إطار تبادل المعلومات الاستخبارية الخاصة بنشاطات الشبكات الإجرامية التي تمتهن تهريب المخدرات من أجل التصدي لانتشارها.
وكان لبنان أحبط أكبر محاولة لتهريب الكوكايين من البرازيل باتجاه بيروت، مخبأة في شحنة عبوات زيوت نباتية، عقب معلومات قدمتها وزارة الداخلية السعودية ممثلة في المديرية العامة لمكافحة المخدرات للجهاز النظير في لبنان.
كما لم تمضِ أيام قليلة على تلك الحادثة، حتى ضبطت السعودية محاولة تهريب كميات من المخدرات تصل لأكثر من 6 ملايين قرص إمفيتامين مخدر منقولة من لبنان إلى إحدى الدول عبر ميناء جدة الإسلامي، ذلك كله يجسد حالة التنسيق القائم بين البلدين لتحديد أساليب التعاون معهم في مجالات المكافحة.
Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar revealed that the security authorities in the country seized approximately 6 million and 500 thousand Captagon pills that were prepared for smuggling to Saudi Arabia via the Port of Beirut, and the shipment intended for smuggling was intercepted before reaching the port.
The security forces arrested the network involved in the smuggling after monitoring its activities for about several months, as it was carrying out operations between Lebanon, Turkey, Australia, and Jordan, posing a wide-ranging threat, according to al-Hajjar.
Earlier, the Lebanese Interior Minister confirmed that his country is coordinating with Riyadh as part of the exchange of intelligence information regarding the activities of criminal networks engaged in drug smuggling in order to combat its spread.
Lebanon had thwarted the largest attempt to smuggle cocaine from Brazil to Beirut, hidden in a shipment of vegetable oil containers, following information provided by the Saudi Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate for Drug Control to its counterpart in Lebanon.
Just a few days after that incident, Saudi Arabia intercepted an attempt to smuggle quantities of drugs amounting to more than 6 million amphetamine pills transported from Lebanon to one of the countries via the Islamic Port of Jeddah, all of which illustrates the existing coordination between the two countries to define methods of cooperation in the fields of combat.
