تشهد سماء المملكة ومعظم دول العالم القديم (آسيا، وأوروبا، وأفريقيا) هذا الشهر ظاهرة فلكية نادرة، تتمثل في غياب رؤية اكتمال القمر (البدر)، رغم بلوغه لحظة الاكتمال فلكياً.
وأوضح عضو نادي الفلك والفضاء عدنان الرمضون أن القمر ظهر في سماء مدينة عرعر اليوم (الجمعة) 8 أغسطس 2025 عند الساعة 6:50 مساءً، وهو في طور الأحدب المتزايد، ويُعرف بدر هذا الشهر باسم «قمر سمك الحفش» (Sturgeon Moon)، وسيظل على هذا الطور حتى يغرب عند الساعة 5:21 فجر السبت 9 أغسطس، دون أن يُشاهد مكتملاً في الأفق المحلي.
وبيّن الرمضون أن لحظة الاكتمال الفلكي للقمر ستحدث عند الساعة 10:55 صباحاً بتوقيت المملكة، أي بعد غروبه، ما يحول دون مشاهدته بدراً في معظم مناطق آسيا وأوروبا وأفريقيا، وهو ما يجعل هذا الشهر من الأشهر النادرة التي لا يُرصد فيها البدر بصرياً في هذه المناطق.
وأفاد بأن القمر سيعاود الظهور مساء السبت 9 أغسطس عند الساعة 7:26 مساءً، وقد بدأ حينها الدخول في طور الأحدب المتناقص، ما يعني أن سكان نصف الكرة الشرقي سيفوتهم مشهد البدر رغم حدوثه فلكياً، مشيراً إلى أن لحظة البدر ستكون مرئية فقط في قارتي أمريكا الشمالية والجنوبية، وسيكون القمر فوق الأفق أثناء اكتماله، ما يتيح لسكان تلك المناطق فرصة مشاهدته في أبهى صورة.
ويعود اسم «قمر سمك الحفش» إلى القبائل الأمريكية الأصلية التي أطلقت هذه التسمية على بدر أغسطس، نظراً إلى وفرة صيد سمك الحفش الكبير في البحيرات والأنهار خلال هذه الفترة من العام، إذ كان يمثل مصدراً مهماً للغذاء.
وتُعد هذه الظاهرة تذكيراً بأهمية الفروق الزمنية والموقع الجغرافي في رصد الأحداث الفلكية، كما تعكس الدقة البالغة التي يتميز بها علم الفلك في تتبع أطوار القمر.
This month, the sky over the Kingdom and most of the ancient world (Asia, Europe, and Africa) witnesses a rare astronomical phenomenon, characterized by the absence of a full moon (the full moon), despite it reaching the moment of fullness astronomically.
Adnan Al-Ramdhoun, a member of the Astronomy and Space Club, explained that the moon appeared in the sky over the city of Arar today (Friday) August 8, 2025, at 6:50 PM, in the waxing gibbous phase. This month's full moon is known as the "Sturgeon Moon," and it will remain in this phase until it sets at 5:21 AM on Saturday, August 9, without being seen as full on the local horizon.
Al-Ramdhoun indicated that the moment of the moon's astronomical fullness will occur at 10:55 AM Saudi time, which is after it has set, preventing it from being seen as full in most regions of Asia, Europe, and Africa. This makes this month one of the rare months in which the full moon is not visually observed in these areas.
He reported that the moon will reappear on the evening of Saturday, August 9, at 7:26 PM, and will then begin to enter the waning gibbous phase, meaning that residents of the Eastern Hemisphere will miss the sight of the full moon despite its astronomical occurrence. He noted that the moment of fullness will only be visible in North and South America, where the moon will be above the horizon during its fullness, allowing residents of those areas the opportunity to see it in its most splendid form.
The name "Sturgeon Moon" comes from the Native American tribes that named the August full moon due to the abundance of large sturgeon fishing in the lakes and rivers during this time of year, as it represented an important food source.
This phenomenon serves as a reminder of the importance of time differences and geographical location in observing astronomical events, and it reflects the remarkable precision that astronomy possesses in tracking the phases of the moon.
