في جريمة مروعة هزت مدينة كامبريدج البريطانية، قُتل طالب سعودي يبلغ من العمر 20 عامًا مساء الجمعة الماضية، بعد تعرضه للطعن في رقبته أثناء تواجده في حديقة تقع جنوب المدينة.
وكشفت مصادر عكاظ أن الضحية يدعى (محمد يوسف القاسم)، وكان يدرس في معهد EF الدولي لتعليم اللغات في كامبريدج.
وكانت الشرطة البريطانية قد تلقت بلاغًا عند الساعة 11:27 مساءً يفيد بتعرض الشاب لاعتداء عنيف، وبالرغم من محاولات الإسعاف، فارق الحياة في موقع الحادث عند الساعة 12:01 صباح السبت.
وفي تطور لافت، أعلنت السلطات البريطانية توقيف شخصين، أحدهما يبلغ 21 عامًا والآخر 50 عامًا، وكلاهما من سكان كامبريدج. وتشتبه الشرطة في تورط الأول بجريمة القتل، فيما يُعتقد أن الثاني قد ساعده.
ولا تزال التحقيقات جارية لكشف ملابسات الجريمة ودوافعها، وسط مطالبات من الشرطة البريطانية لكل من يمتلك معلومات تتعلق بالقضية بالتواصل العاجل مع جهات التحقيق.
ومن المقرر أن تصدر الشرطة بياناً لشرح تفاصيل الحادث في الساعات القليلة القادمة.
من جانبه، أوضح معهد EF الدولي لتعليم اللغات في كامبريدج، أن الضحية كان أحد طلابه، ووصف الحادث، في بيان بأنه «هجوم فردي نفّذه أحد أفراد الجمهور».
وأضاف: «نشعر بحزن عميق لتأكيد إصابة أحد طلابنا بجروح قاتلة مساء الجمعة في مكان عام».

In a horrific crime that shook the British city of Cambridge, a 20-year-old Saudi student was killed last Friday evening after being stabbed in the neck while in a park located south of the city.
Sources from Okaz revealed that the victim is named (Mohammed Youssef Al-Qassim), and he was studying at the EF International Language Institute in Cambridge.
The British police received a report at 11:27 PM indicating that the young man had been subjected to a violent attack, and despite attempts at resuscitation, he passed away at the scene of the incident at 12:01 AM on Saturday.
In a notable development, British authorities announced the arrest of two individuals, one aged 21 and the other 50, both residents of Cambridge. The police suspect the first individual of being involved in the murder, while it is believed that the second assisted him.
Investigations are still ongoing to uncover the circumstances and motives behind the crime, amid calls from the British police for anyone with information related to the case to urgently contact the investigative authorities.
The police are expected to issue a statement to explain the details of the incident in the coming hours.
For its part, the EF International Language Institute in Cambridge clarified that the victim was one of its students, describing the incident in a statement as a “lone attack carried out by a member of the public”.
It added: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our students was fatally injured on Friday evening in a public place”.
