Members of the United Nations Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing attacks by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilians and energy infrastructure, which have resulted in injuries to civilians, including women and children.
This was stated in a press release by the French ambassador to the United Nations, Jérôme Bonnafont, whose country is currently presiding over the Security Council this month.
Bonnafont referred to the press release issued by the Council on August 7, 2026, in which members condemned the missile attacks launched by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom and the attacks on commercial ships.
He affirmed that the members of the Security Council reiterated their condemnation of the attacks and threats against commercial navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of commercial vessels and their crews, and respecting the rights and freedoms of navigation in accordance with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The members of the Council called on the Houthi militia to immediately cease military escalation and end attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects, stressing the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and the full implementation of resolution (2216) of 2015 and subsequent relevant resolutions.
They also called for enhanced practical cooperation, including with the Yemeni government, to prevent the Houthi militia from acquiring weapons, equipment, and assistance related to military activities, emphasizing the necessity for all member states to adhere to their commitments regarding the targeted arms embargo.
The members of the Council condemned the ongoing military escalation by the Houthi militia in Yemen, expressing their grave concern over reports indicating the death, injury, and displacement of no less than (125) thousand civilians across Yemen since the beginning of this month, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in addition to damage to civilian objects and infrastructure.
They warned that continued escalation would exacerbate the humanitarian situation in Yemen and could lead to further displacement of civilians, stressing the need to ensure that humanitarian assistance is delivered fully, safely, quickly, and without obstacles to all civilians in need, and to guarantee the safety of humanitarian workers, United Nations staff, and associated personnel.
The members renewed their demand for the immediate, unconditional, and safe release of detainees, including (73) United Nations staff, as well as employees of national and international non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions.
They affirmed that the military escalation by the Houthi militia in Yemen, the continuation of their attacks on the Kingdom, the attacks and threats against international navigation in the Red Sea, and the advance of the Houthis in Bab al-Mandab are factors that threaten to exacerbate the conflict, jeopardize maritime security and international trade, and undermine regional and international efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen.
The members of the Security Council expressed their solidarity with the Kingdom in facing attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects on its territory, affirming its inherent right to self-defense in accordance with international law.
They reiterated their support for the Yemeni government and their steadfast commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, affirming that sustainable peace in Yemen cannot be achieved through violence, coercion, or the use of force.
They also renewed their support for the United Nations Special Envoy Hans Grundberg and his efforts to reach a comprehensive and negotiated political settlement in Yemen, based on the agreed-upon references and in line with relevant Security Council resolutions, calling on the parties to engage constructively with the United Nations efforts in this regard.
