The Muslim World League launched an event in "New York": "Artificial Intelligence for All... Faith, Human Dignity, and Artificial Intelligence," with the support and participation of the United Nations, during the proceedings of the "81st" high-level week of its General Assembly.
The event was attended by the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Miguel Moratinos, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, and a large number of religious leaders interested in research on the ethics of artificial intelligence, representatives from major artificial intelligence companies in the United States, the World Bank, representatives from major American universities, and prominent candidates for the position of UN Secretary-General.
The event focused - among its main themes - on the importance of diverse international participation in addressing the ethics of artificial intelligence, including the "religious dimension" and the "civilizational dimension," in their shared ethical framework, which represents an important area in the research themes of those ethics internationally - specifically in this regard - by the UN Alliance of Civilizations. This initially includes content that supports hatred or incites violence and civilizational clashes driven by ideological motives, specifically "religious" and "related intellectual" motivations.
The conference concluded with a recommendation to assign the "Alliance of Civilizations" of the United Nations to establish a "Code of Ethics for Artificial Intelligence," and to form a committee for this purpose led by the organization, including a diverse range of religious leaders and intellectual, educational, and legislative experts, as well as representatives from technology companies to reach a global common ground that expresses a "civilizational alliance" "in this regard."
The organization, through its high representative, Mr. Miguel Moratinos, expressed its full readiness for this, and the attendees thanked this positive response.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa, announced the League's intention to launch an artificial intelligence lab in collaboration with some technology companies, to develop programs that benefit religious, educational, and humanitarian institutions related to religious affairs.
He also announced that efforts would be made to automate a number of Islamic and Arabic sources and books, making them available to artificial intelligence companies, while respecting intellectual property rights.
He also announced the establishment of a special unit dedicated to monitoring translation errors, correcting them, and sharing that with everyone, noting that many errors have been detected in the translation of several Islamic texts and related sciences, which have led to concepts that are far from the truth and resulted in severely mistaken perceptions and convictions.
