The National Center for Environmental Compliance Monitoring confirmed the continuation of its inspection and regulatory tours to control and manage the dust generated by construction activities in Riyadh, thereby increasing the total fines on construction projects causing dust to 20 million riyals; with the aim of mitigating the effects of these activities and improving air quality in all neighborhoods of the capital.
The director of the center's branch in Riyadh, Fawaz Al-Mujthal, explained that the inspection tours are conducted in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the Municipality of the Capital since the announcement of the specific procedures, according to the procedural guide announced last February, indicating that the regulatory teams work to monitor violations and verify their correction before taking legal action against non-compliant projects.
He pointed out that monitoring of construction projects is carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring continuous follow-up and monitoring, addressing dust sources from construction activities at various times of the day, and providing regulatory data that contributes to enhancing monitoring and analysis efficiency, directing inspection efforts towards the most impactful sites and sources.
The air quality monitoring system includes 12 fixed stations distributed throughout the Riyadh region, in addition to 4 mobile stations, which monitor and analyze 22 elements of air quality, allowing for the tracking of pollution levels and monitoring any violations of the approved standards, and taking necessary actions accordingly. The stations have been redistributed based on their proximity to large construction projects such as the Diriyah Gate and the Al-Muqayyar Project.
