The Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank are no longer just isolated security incidents; they have become a comprehensive and systematic course that directly threatens the possibility of establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state.
The expansion of settlements, the demolition of homes, and the confiscation of land, along with the rise in settler violence, have altered the Palestinian geography in a way that makes the "two-state solution" seem like a distant dream.
In numerical terms, the year 2026 witnessed, according to UN statistics, unprecedented levels of settler violence, with more than 1,430 incidents documented, while around 260 Palestinian communities were subjected to these attacks. Approximately 3,800 Palestinians were displaced during the year as a result of settler violence and demolition and eviction operations.
The danger of settlement lies not only in the number of housing units but also in their location and their impact on the geographical connectivity between Palestinian cities and villages. Despite the Security Council's confirmation in an international resolution that the settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967 lack legal legitimacy and represent a major obstacle to achieving the two-state solution, the international community continues to limit itself to statements of condemnation and denunciation in the face of the occupation's crimes.
Therefore, the international community, especially the active powers, is now required to intervene quickly to stop the violations of the occupation and the crimes of the settlers, before the Palestinian state becomes a collection of separate areas lacking connectivity and sovereignty.
If the alteration of the geographical and demographic reality continues at this pace, the discussion of a Palestinian state may shift from a feasible political project to a dream that is difficult to realize in reality.
