شارك المندوب الدائم للمملكة لدى الأمم المتحدة في نيويورك الدكتور عبدالعزيز بن محمد الواصل، في جلسة مجلس الأمن بشأن العنف الجنسي في مناطق النزاع المسلح.
وأكد في بيان المملكة أمام المجلس أن العنف الجنسي في مناطق النزاعات المسلحة يمثل تهديداً للسلم والأمن الدوليين، ويستوجب محاسبة مرتكبيه وإنهاء الإفلات من العقاب.
وشدد على أهمية الالتزام الكامل بالقانون الدولي الإنساني واتفاقيات جنيف، وضرورة حماية المدنيين، وضمان وصول المساعدات الإنسانية دون عوائق، مشيداً بجهود مركز الملك سلمان للإغاثة والأعمال الإنسانية في دعم المتضررين من النزاعات، بمن فيهم ضحايا العنف الجنسي، بالتعاون مع المنظمات الدولية.
وأشار الدكتور الواصل إلى أن الانتهاكات في الأراضي الفلسطينية بما فيها العنف الجنسي، تمثل انتهاكاً جسيماً للقانون الدولي، داعياً إلى تحرك دولي عاجل لحماية المدنيين ومحاسبة المسؤولين.
واختتم بالتأكيد أن حماية المدنيين من العنف الجنسي مسؤولية قانونية وأخلاقية مشتركة، تتطلب تعزيز التعاون الدولي والاستجابة لمعاناة الضحايا.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasel, participated in the Security Council session on sexual violence in armed conflict areas.
He affirmed in the Kingdom's statement before the Council that sexual violence in armed conflict areas poses a threat to international peace and security, necessitating accountability for the perpetrators and an end to impunity.
He emphasized the importance of full compliance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, the necessity of protecting civilians, and ensuring unhindered access to humanitarian assistance, praising the efforts of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in supporting those affected by conflicts, including victims of sexual violence, in cooperation with international organizations.
Dr. Al-Wasel pointed out that violations in the Palestinian territories, including sexual violence, represent a serious violation of international law, calling for urgent international action to protect civilians and hold those responsible accountable.
He concluded by affirming that protecting civilians from sexual violence is a shared legal and moral responsibility that requires enhancing international cooperation and responding to the suffering of victims.
