The Imam and preacher of the Prophet's Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Abdulrahman Al-Hudhaifi, confirmed that Hajj is an obligation that showcases the aspects of acquaintance, harmony, cooperation, and mutual support among the people of Islam, as they perform the rituals despite their different languages, colors, and countries, as loving brothers, witnessing benefits for themselves and to feed the poor from their sacrifices, and they should be characterized by kindness in actions and truthfulness in words.
This was stated in the Arafah sermon delivered by Sheikh Al-Hudhaifi today at Nimra Mosque, with the Deputy Emir of the Makkah Region, Deputy Chairman of the Central Hajj Committee, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Fawzan Al-Fawzan, and the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, leading the prayers. Al-Hudhaifi began the sermon: Praise be to Allah, the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Peace, who has made Hajj to His Sacred House an obligation for Muslims and made it one of the pillars of the Islamic faith. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, the Sovereign, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, the best of mankind, and may the best prayers and peace be upon him, his family, his companions, and his followers.
After that, O people, fear Allah, for it is the salvation of the servant in the Hereafter. Allah, the Exalted, says in the first verse of Surah Al-Hajj: ﴿O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the Hour is a terrible thing (1). The Day you see it, every nursing mother will be distracted from that which she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will drop her burden. And you will see the people appearing intoxicated, while they are not intoxicated, but the punishment of Allah is severe﴾. Among the piety of Allah is to prepare for the Day of Resurrection by performing good deeds and avoiding sins and misdeeds. Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿That is because Allah is the Truth and because He gives life to the dead, and because He is over all things competent (6) And that the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it, and that Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves﴾.
Tawheed is the Greatest Worship
And the greatest preparation for the Hereafter is through Tawheed and worshiping Allah alone and avoiding invoking others. ﴿He invokes besides Allah that which does not harm him and does not benefit him. That is the far astray﴾ (12). He invokes one whose harm is closer than his benefit. How wretched is the protector, and how wretched is the companion. ﴿And whoever associates with Allah, it is as if he had fallen from the sky, and the birds snatch him, or the wind sweeps him away to a distant place﴾. The slogan of the people of faith is Tawheed for Allah, the Exalted: ﴿So your God is one God. So to Him submit. And give good tidings to the humble (34) Who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble, and the patient upon what has afflicted them, and the maintainers of prayer and from what We have provided them, they spend﴾. These are the pillars of the religion of Islam: Tawheed, the testimony that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat, fasting Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah, along with the recommendation to fear Allah, the Exalted: ﴿And for whoever fears the position of his Lord are two gardens﴾, and patience in obedience to Allah and in the face of painful decrees: ﴿Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account﴾, along with thanking Allah for His blessings: ﴿Thus We have subjected it for you, that perhaps you will be grateful﴾. And Allah has universal laws for creation that the servant must believe in and benefit from: ﴿Indeed, Allah defends those who believe. Indeed, Allah does not like every treacherous disbeliever﴾, and He, the Exalted, said: ﴿And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise﴾.
Among them is His saying: ﴿And how many a city have We destroyed while it was wronging itself, and it is now fallen upon its roofs, and a deserted well and a lofty palace﴾, ﴿And how many a city have I given respite while it was wronging itself, then I seized it, and to Me is the destination﴾.
Indeed, Allah -the Glorified and Exalted- commanded His friend Ibrahim to call for Hajj: ﴿And proclaim to the people the Hajj; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass (27) That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided them of sacrificial animals﴾. Yes, to witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah. Pilgrims came from every distant pass to perform the rituals, seeking to please Allah, the Exalted, and desiring His reward, glorifying the ancient House and the sacred sites: ﴿And the Sacred Mosque, which We have made for the people, equal are the resident therein and the visitor. And whoever intends therein to commit injustice by wrongdoing, We will make him taste a painful punishment﴾.
No Slogans in Hajj
They come to these places in response to the call of Tawheed by dedicating worship to Allah alone and abandoning polytheism: ﴿And when We designated for Ibrahim the site of the House, [We said], "Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand and those who bow and prostrate﴾.
So the House is purified from everything that does not befit its status; there is no immorality, no arguing during Hajj, no political slogans, and no party calls, but rather submission to Allah and following His Prophet -peace be upon him- and purity in both appearance and heart, fulfilling covenants and respecting rights: ﴿That is, and whoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allah, for him is good in the sight of his Lord﴾, ﴿And whoever honors the rites of Allah, indeed, it is from the piety of hearts﴾.
And in Hajj, the aspects of acquaintance, harmony, cooperation, and mutual support among the people of Islam are manifested, as they perform the rituals despite their different languages, colors, and countries, as loving brothers, witnessing benefits for themselves and feeding the poor from their sacrifices: ﴿the miserable poor﴾, and they should be characterized by kindness in actions and truthfulness in words: ﴿And avoid false speech﴾.
At the standing of Arafah, Allah boasts about you to His angels, and it is the great standing in which Allah revealed: ﴿This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have chosen for you Islam as religion﴾. So follow the Prophet of guidance -peace be upon him- for he prayed Dhuhr and Asr together and shortened them, then he stood remembering Allah until the sun set, then he went to Muzdalifah as Allah, the Exalted, said: ﴿And when you depart from Arafat, remember Allah at Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram. And remember Him as He has guided you, and indeed, you were before it among the astray﴾.
When the day of Eid arrived, he went to Mina: ﴿Then depart from where the people depart and seek forgiveness from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful﴾. He threw the Jamrat Al-Aqabah, slaughtered his sacrifice, shaved his head, and permitted shortening, then he performed Tawaf of the House: ﴿Then let them complete their rites and fulfill their vows and let them perform Tawaf around the Ancient House﴾.
Commitment to Crowd Management Regulations
With a focus on tranquility and gentleness, avoiding pushing, implementing the instructions of the organizing authorities, adhering to crowd management regulations and movement paths to achieve the public interest, avoid harm and chaos, preserve lives, and facilitate the performance of the rituals.
In Mina, it is recommended to increase the remembrance of Allah: ﴿And when you have completed your rites, remember Allah like your remembrance of your fathers or with greater remembrance﴾.
During the days of Tashreeq, the pilgrim throws the three Jamrat, each with seven pebbles each day, and it is preferable to stay until the thirteenth day, but it is permissible to hasten on the twelfth day: ﴿And remember Allah during the numbered days. And whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him, and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him for him who fears Allah. And fear Allah and know that you will be gathered to Him﴾.
Before traveling, there is the farewell Tawaf, for Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿He has chosen you and has not made upon you in religion any difficulty, the religion of your father Ibrahim. He has named you Muslims before and in this, that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakat and hold fast to Allah; He is your protector. So how excellent is the protector and how excellent is the helper﴾.
The Best Supplication on Arafah
And among the means of holding fast to Allah is to frequently invoke one's Lord, especially in the places of Hajj, as they are places of response: the best supplication is the supplication of Arafah, as it has been narrated from him -peace be upon him- that he said on this day: The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah, and the best I and the prophets before me have said is: There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs the praise, and He is over all things competent. And Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you﴾, ﴿And among them are those who say, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire (201) Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in account﴾.
O Allah, accept the supplications and rituals of the pilgrims, facilitate their affairs, forgive their sins, and return them to their countries safe, prosperous, and victorious.
O Allah, rectify the affairs of the Muslims, unite their word upon the truth, manage all their affairs, and improve their religious and worldly conditions.
O Allah, grant success to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and reward them with the best reward in this world and the Hereafter, for they have done good to Your servants and facilitated for the pilgrims the performance of the rituals, and they have generously given in the service of the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. O Allah, support Your religion through them.
And send blessings, O Allah, upon Muhammad and upon his family and companions, and grant them abundant peace.
Following that, the pilgrims of the House of Allah performed the Dhuhr and Asr prayers together and shortened them, following the Sunnah of the Prophet -peace be upon him-.
