شارك المندوب الدائم للمملكة العربية السعودية لدى الأمم المتحدة السفير الدكتور عبدالعزيز الواصل، في اجتماع جانبي عُقد على هامش الدورة التاسعة والخمسين للجنة السكان والتنمية بالأمم المتحدة بعنوان «التحولات الديموغرافية والمستقبل الرقمي والتنمية المستدامة.. تحقيق عائد الشيخوخة».
وأكد الواصل في كلمته أن شيخوخة السكان تمثل تحديًا عالميًا متسارعًا يتطلب مزيدًا من الاهتمام ضمن مسارات التنمية المستدامة، مشيرًا إلى أهمية تبني سياسات شاملة تستجيب لهذه التحولات الديموغرافية المتسارعة.
وشدد على أهمية تمكين كبار السن والاعتراف بدورهم الحيوي في تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة، داعيًا إلى تعزيز مشاركتهم في مختلف المجالات والاستفادة من خبراتهم المتراكمة.
وأكد ضرورة اعتماد نهج قائم على مسار الحياة، يربط بين الاستثمار المبكر في الإنسان وتعزيز الإنتاجية في مراحل العمر المختلفة، بما يسهم في تحقيق الرفاه والاستقرار في مرحلة الشيخوخة.
وتناول الواصل أثر التحولات التكنولوجية، لا سيما في أسواق العمل، مؤكدًا أهمية تنمية المهارات وتعزيز التعلم مدى الحياة لمواكبة التغيرات المتسارعة في المستقبل الرقمي.
وأبرز أهمية تعزيز التعاون الدولي لمواجهة التحديات المشتركة، منوهًا بمبادرة المملكة في إنشاء مجموعة أصدقاء الشيخوخة والتنمية المستدامة، بما يسهم في تبادل الخبرات وتعزيز العمل المشترك بين الدول.
وجدد المندوب الدائم للمملكة لدى الأمم المتحدة، التزام المملكة بدعم السياسات الشاملة التي تعزز التنمية المستدامة وتواكب التحولات الديموغرافية، بما يحقق التوازن بين مختلف الفئات العمرية ويعزز جودة الحياة.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, participated in a side meeting held on the sidelines of the 59th session of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development titled "Demographic Transitions, the Digital Future, and Sustainable Development... Realizing the Dividend of Aging."
Al-Wasel emphasized in his speech that population aging represents a rapidly accelerating global challenge that requires more attention within sustainable development pathways, pointing to the importance of adopting comprehensive policies that respond to these rapid demographic changes.
He stressed the importance of empowering the elderly and recognizing their vital role in achieving sustainable development goals, calling for enhancing their participation in various fields and benefiting from their accumulated experiences.
He affirmed the necessity of adopting a life-course approach that links early investment in human beings to enhancing productivity at different stages of life, contributing to achieving well-being and stability in old age.
Al-Wasel addressed the impact of technological transformations, particularly in labor markets, emphasizing the importance of skill development and promoting lifelong learning to keep pace with the rapid changes in the digital future.
He highlighted the importance of enhancing international cooperation to address common challenges, noting the Kingdom's initiative to establish a Group of Friends of Aging and Sustainable Development, which contributes to the exchange of experiences and strengthens joint work among countries.
The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to supporting inclusive policies that promote sustainable development and keep pace with demographic changes, achieving a balance between different age groups and enhancing quality of life.
