تحتفي العُلا اليوم بإحياء فعالية «الطنطورة» في البلدة القديمة، وهي من أبرز العلامات التراثية المرتبطة بتاريخ المنطقة وتراثها غير المادي.
وتُمثِّل «الطنطورة» ساعة شمسية (مزولة) تاريخية اعتمد عليها أهالي وسكان العُلا منذ مئات السنين؛ لتحديد دخول الموسم الزراعي وبداية المربعانية؛ مما جعلها عنصرًا محوريًا في تنظيم الحياة اليومية ودورة المواسم الزراعية عبر الأجيال.
مكونات ثقافية
وتأتي فعالية هذا العام ضمن جهود الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العُلا لإبراز المكوّنات الثقافية وتعزيز حضور التراث في المشهد العام، حيث تُقام مجموعة واسعة من الأنشطة الثقافية والتراثية التي تُسلِّط الضوء على القيمة التاريخية للطنطورة ودورها في توثيق العلاقة بين الإنسان وبيئة الواحة الزراعية، إلى جانب عروض تراثية، وتجارب للحرف التقليدية، وفقرات تعريفية بتاريخ الطنطورة واستخداماتها، وأنشطة تُعيد استحضار ملامح الحياة القديمة في العُلا.

ويسهم تنظيم الفعالية في تعزيز الوعي بهذه العلامة التراثية بوصفها أحد أبرز شواهد التراث الثقافي غير المادي في المنطقة، كما يبرز أهميتها في فهم الممارسات الموسمية التي شكّلت أسلوب حياة أهالي وسكان العُلا، لاسيما ارتباطها بإعلان بداية فصل الشتاء والاستعدادات الزراعية المصاحبة للمربعانية.

وتأتي إعادة إحياء فعالية «الطنطورة» في إطار التزام الهيئة الملكية لمحافظة العُلا بصون التراث وتفعيله بأساليب معاصرة تدعم الهوية الثقافية وتعزز الانتماء، وتربط الأجيال الحالية بإرث العُلا التاريخي، كما تدعم الفعالية الحراك الثقافي والسياحي عبر تقديم تجارب تثري رحلة الزوار وتعمّق فهمهم لقيمة التراث الوطني.

Al-Ula today celebrates the revival of the "Tantora" event in the old town, which is one of the most prominent heritage symbols associated with the history of the region and its intangible heritage.
The "Tantora" represents a historical sundial that the people of Al-Ula have relied on for hundreds of years to determine the start of the agricultural season and the beginning of the "Mubarakania"; making it a central element in organizing daily life and the agricultural seasons across generations.

This year's event is part of the Royal Commission for Al-Ula's efforts to highlight cultural components and enhance the presence of heritage in the public scene, where a wide range of cultural and heritage activities are held that spotlight the historical value of the Tantora and its role in documenting the relationship between humans and the agricultural oasis environment, alongside heritage performances, traditional craft experiences, informative segments about the history of the Tantora and its uses, and activities that revive the features of ancient life in Al-Ula.

Organizing the event contributes to raising awareness of this heritage symbol as one of the most prominent witnesses of intangible cultural heritage in the region, as well as highlighting its importance in understanding the seasonal practices that shaped the lifestyle of the people of Al-Ula, particularly its connection to announcing the beginning of winter and the agricultural preparations accompanying the Mubarakania.
