Pakistan has renewed its position supporting the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran. During a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad today (Friday), Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar called on the United States to implement the memorandum of understanding with Iran.

He emphasized that implementing the memorandum of understanding is the only way forward, stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to achieve lasting peace, according to a statement from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister recently visited Tehran and met with Iranian leaders, as his country seeks to push for a return to the negotiating table.

Pakistani security sources revealed that the ceasefire agreed upon in mid-June, as part of a framework agreement between the United States and Iran, will be extended. They stated that the extension could last for an additional 60 or even 90 days, but noted that it has not yet been decided whether the extension of the ceasefire will be officially announced.

The 60-day deadline allocated for negotiations, as stipulated in the framework agreement between the United States and Iran signed last June, will end in mid-August.

The United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, to which Iran responded by targeting countries in the region and attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Then, in mid-April, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire in the conflict. In mid-June, the United States and Iran, with Pakistani mediation, agreed on a framework agreement that included a ceasefire, but they violated it in July.
