The relevant authority has closed the Tuesday market in Abha for 60 days for renovation and development work to improve the quality of the market's facilities, which is considered one of the oldest traditional markets in Asir and is located in the city center. It offers a unique mix of products that provide visitors with a shopping experience that combines authenticity and modernity, as well as a cultural journey linking the past and present, making it an indispensable destination for lovers of heritage and local products. Meanwhile, the market's location has been temporarily moved to the Hayy Al-Hayam until the renovation and development project is completed.
Mustafa bin Aziz stated that the closure of the Tuesday market for renovation and development is a tourist, heritage, and economic event. He wished it could be an addition to Asir's tourist attractions during the summer season, as the timing of its closure is not suitable for the summer season. Those who think the timing is appropriate may see it from a different perspective.
For his part, media figure Hassan Al-Qubaisi believes that the Tuesday market is one of the most famous places visited by summer vacationers and those coming to Abha. Its closure for improvements is to align with what the Kingdom is experiencing in general and the Asir region in particular under Vision 2030; perhaps it is the right time for development.
Fahd Mdawei added that development is important for the historical and heritage Tuesday market, and it is essential that its development aligns with the market's heritage and does not overwhelm it with concrete blocks and urban construction. Said Qaz'a concludes by saying: The timing of its closure is not suitable, but we will be pleased with its development to narrate the past and present of the Asir region. It is worth mentioning that the Tuesday market is characterized by a strong presence of traditional products and many other items, and it witnesses significant turnout throughout the week from citizens and tourists, especially on Tuesdays, to acquire some of the heritage items that Asir is known for and continues to be famous for.
