The date market in Najran is currently witnessing significant economic activity in the buying and selling of the harvest from the region's palm farms, located at the date market in the historic Aba Saud neighborhood.
The palm farms spread across the Najran region and its affiliated governorates produce the finest Al-Bayadh dates, Al-Mawakeel, and other types of dates, which are welcomed in the markets during the date harvesting season (summer each year).
One of the sellers at the date market in Najran, citizen Ibrahim Al-Shahhi, explained to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that this year's date season in the region has seen noticeable activity due to the quality of the dates, especially Al-Bayadh and Al-Mawakeel, which are famous in Najran for their size, taste quality, nutritional and health value, and ease of storage. He emphasized the families' eagerness in the region to have dates in their homes to offer to guests and visitors during wedding celebrations and festivities that take place in the region during holiday seasons.
He pointed out that Al-Bayadh dates are very popular among consumers and buyers from both inside and outside the region, while Al-Mawakeel and Barni dates are among the preferred varieties for customers and shoppers.
For his part, agricultural engineer Abdullah Al-Yami stated that date production has improved this year compared to previous years due to the increased agricultural awareness among farmers regarding modern agricultural practices and methods that have contributed to the quality of the product and the size of the dates. This improvement is thanks to God Almighty and the efforts provided by the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in the region to educate farmers on the correct ways to care for palm trees.
He affirmed the importance of palm trees in Najran and other regions of the Kingdom as a historical heritage for the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula, which requires the responsible authorities in the region to cooperate and harness technical and material resources to care for and support palm farmers in the area in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, aimed at enhancing and developing national capabilities and resources, contributing to the creation of new economic tributaries.
