The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia concluded its participation in the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, where the forum hosted a group of countries to review global efforts and progress made in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals under the 2030 Agenda. The forum's activities took place from July 14 to July 23, 2025.
The Saudi delegation was headed by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal Al-Ibrahim, and included representatives from nine government entities, including the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Saudi Fund for Development, the Medina Development Authority, the National Center for Wildlife Development, and the Quality of Life Program.
During the Kingdom's speech at the forum, Minister Al-Ibrahim stated: "In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Vision 2030 has formed a national project stemming from the aspirations of the wise leadership and the hopes of the sons and daughters of the nation, which has made the Kingdom the fastest advancing in sustainable development indicators among G20 countries over the past ten years. This progress confirms that qualitative achievement occurs when ambition aligns with organized work, driven by strong will and supported by effective policies."
He added: "The Kingdom has redefined the features of its national sustainable development plan, leading to pioneering local efforts; for instance, Medina launched a Sustainable Development Atlas for all its seventy neighborhoods, a qualitative step that provided in-depth data and enabled the simulation of scientific scenarios and the precise formulation of policies with greater impact."
In light of the Kingdom's selection by the United Nations Water Committee as one of the countries that has made clear and tangible progress in the integrated water resources management index from the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Kingdom's experience was presented for the key lessons learned in enhancing water security and sustainability in a region suffering from severe scarcity of natural water resources. This was during the participation of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the water event related to the action plan for the sixth target of the Sustainable Development Goals, which was held on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. Additionally, the Ministry of Economy and Planning, in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Quality of Life Program, and the Medina Development Authority, organized a side event focused on the importance of integration between government sectors, based on wise policies, institutional capabilities, and an advanced innovation system, to accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Saudi Fund for Development participated through an informational booth aimed at highlighting its contributions to global sustainable development and its efforts in financing developmental projects and programs in key sectors such as health, education, energy, infrastructure, industry, mining, and others.
The Minister of Economy and Planning also held a series of meetings with several senior officials participating in the forum, during which bilateral cooperation areas and strategic partnerships were discussed, contributing to enhancing and building economic and trade relations and investment opportunities for both parties.
It is noteworthy that the High-Level Political Forum has been held annually since 2012, under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
