The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which this year is held under the theme "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation," during an event organized at the ministry's headquarters in Riyadh.
The event witnessed a distinguished attendance that included a selection of experts, decision-makers, and talented individuals in the digital field. It featured panel discussions that explored the horizons of innovation and entrepreneurship, the development of digital infrastructure, and the future of the Kingdom in the fields of artificial intelligence, in addition to showcasing inspiring success stories of technology champions from the sons and daughters of the nation.
A technology exhibition was held where national companies showcased their latest innovations in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, along with a dedicated section for graduates from the digital gaming sector, where models of locally developed games were displayed. This clearly reflects the ministry's support for Saudi talents and its efforts to empower them to excel in the tech sector, creating a fertile environment for growth and impact.
These efforts are part of a strategic vision through which the ministry aims to maximize the economic impact of technology, as the digital economy contributes more than 495 billion riyals to the gross domestic product, accounting for 15%. Meanwhile, the size of the telecommunications and information technology market is expected to exceed 180 billion riyals by 2024, creating more than 381,000 quality jobs in the tech sector. Empowering women has been one of the most prominent features of this transformation, as their participation in the sector has increased from 7% in 2018 to 35% today, the highest in the region, surpassing the averages of the G20 countries and the European Union. In the field of digital government, the Kingdom ranked fourth globally in the Digital Services Index, second among G20 countries, and first regionally.
