The (Magnet) platform for venture capital has reported the launch of 17 venture capital funds focusing on the Middle East and North Africa since 2024, with a total targeted size of $1.65 billion.
The platform indicated that only $197 million (or 12% of the total) has been tracked as invested in startups, meaning that an estimated amount of $1.45 billion (or 88%) remains uninvested.
Continuing Expansion
This 88% figure requires proper context; most of these funds are still in relatively early stages of their investment periods, with 10 out of the 17 funds having invested less than 10% of their targeted size. At the same time, this group of funds continued to expand during the first half of 2026, launching three new funds that added another $370 million to the total targeted capital.
Therefore, the issue is not about the availability of capital itself, but rather about the speed of its deployment, the areas of investment, and the controls or mandates governing this deployment.
For founders and investors, the $1.45 billion represents latent investment capacity; however, the availability of these funds will ultimately depend on the fund's strategy, the company's growth stage, geographical location, and the pace of investment deployment.
