أكد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أن إيران «آيلة للسقوط»، مشيرا إلى أنها غير قادرة على دفع رواتب قطاعات واسعة من قواتها العسكرية.
وقال ترمب في منشور على منصة «تروث سوشيال»، اليوم الثلاثاء، إن طهران «تقتل المحتجين، حتى عندما لا يكونون في حالة احتجاج، وبمستوى غير مسبوق»، ووصف الوضع بأنه «أزمة إنسانية هائلة يجب وقفها الآن».
وشدد وزير الحرب الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث، أمس الإثنين، على أن إدارة الرئيس ترمب لا تستبعد استخدام القوة العسكرية ضد إيران، حتى مع إعلان واشنطن عن «هجوم اقتصادي حاسم» على طهران.
وقال هيغسيث لصحفيين: «لا نستبعد بأي حال من الأحوال استخدام الضربات العسكرية في أي مكان في مضيق هرمز أو في أنحاء إيران»، مضيفاً أن طهران لا تستطيع تحمل الضغوط الاقتصادية المفروضة عليها، وفق ما نقلت وكالة "رويترز".
وكان وزير الخزانة الأمريكي سكوت بيسنت، كشف في وقت سابق الإثنين، عن خطط واشنطن لـ«خنق» إيران اقتصادياً، والتي تشمل تهديدات بفرض عقوبات أمريكية ثانوية، محذراً من عواقب وخيمة قد تواجهها الدول التي ترفض الانضمام إلى حملة الضغط على طهران.
وقال بيسنت خلال مؤتمر صحفي إن «هدفنا في مختلف أنحاء العالم قطع كل شريان اقتصادي» يُبقي النظام الإيراني «قائماً، إلى أن تصبح طهران وحدها»، مضيفاً: «سنحاسب الجميع، وهذه هي سياسة الخنق الاقتصادي التي نستهدف بها هذا النظام».
ورد وزير الاقتصاد الإيراني علي مدني زادة للتلفزيون الرسمي قائلاً: «نحن على أتم الاستعداد للعقوبات الأمريكية».
وكان بيسنت كتب في مقال نشرته صحيفة «فاينانشال تايمز» الأحد، أن واشنطن ستشن «أكبر هجوم اقتصادي على الإطلاق» ضد إيران، مشبهاً إياه بيوم إنزال الحلفاء في النورماندي المعروف بالإنجليزية بـ«دي داي»، والذي كان نقطة تحول لحسم الحرب العالمية الثانية.
تأتي هذه التطورات بعد نحو ستة أشهر من الحرب بين واشنطن وطهران، التي وصلت إلى طريق مسدود، في ظل تعثر محادثات السلام واستمرار إيران في عرقلة حركة الملاحة عبر مضيق هرمز الحيوي.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that Iran is "on the verge of collapse," pointing out that it is unable to pay the salaries of large sectors of its military forces.
Trump said in a post on the "Truth Social" platform today, Tuesday, that Tehran "kills protesters, even when they are not protesting, at an unprecedented level," describing the situation as a "huge humanitarian crisis that must be stopped now."
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth emphasized yesterday, Monday, that the Trump administration does not rule out the use of military force against Iran, even as Washington announced a "decisive economic attack" on Tehran.
Hegseth told reporters: "We do not rule out the use of military strikes anywhere in the Strait of Hormuz or throughout Iran," adding that Tehran cannot withstand the economic pressures imposed on it, according to what was reported by Reuters.
Earlier on Monday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pisent revealed Washington's plans to "squeeze" Iran economically, which include threats of imposing secondary U.S. sanctions, warning of severe consequences that countries may face if they refuse to join the pressure campaign against Tehran.
Pisent said during a press conference that "our goal worldwide is to cut off every economic artery" that keeps the Iranian regime "alive, until Tehran is isolated," adding: "We will hold everyone accountable, and this is the economic strangulation policy we are targeting at this regime."
Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madani Zadeh responded to state television, saying: "We are fully prepared for U.S. sanctions."
Pisent had written in an article published by the Financial Times on Sunday that Washington would launch "the largest economic attack ever" against Iran, likening it to the Allies' landing in Normandy, known in English as "D-Day," which was a turning point in winning World War II.
These developments come about six months into the war between Washington and Tehran, which has reached a deadlock, amid stalled peace talks and Iran's continued obstruction of shipping traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
