كشف مصدر مطلع اليوم أن وزارة الخزانة الأمريكية قررت تمديد الإعفاء من العقوبات على النفط الروسي المنقول بحراً لمدة 30 يوماً، بعدما انتهى العمل به السبت الماضي، وذلك بحسب ما نشر موقع «العربية. نت».
وأوضح المصدر أن التمديد جاء بعد أن طلبت عدة دول مزيداً من الوقت لشراء النفط الروسي.
نقص الإمدادات
وكانت الولايات المتحدة قد أصدرت الإعفاء في محاولة للتخفيف من نقص إمدادات النفط وارتفاع الأسعار بسبب إغلاق إيران مضيق هرمز في خضم الهجوم الأمريكي الإسرائيلي، لكن هذه الخطوة لم يكن لها تأثير يذكر في ما يتعلق بتهدئة أسعار البنزين في الولايات المتحدة.
وبيَّن وزير الخزانة الأمريكي سكوت بيسنت في وقت سابق أنه لن يجدد الترخيص العام الذي يسمح بشراء النفط الروسي المخزن على ناقلات.
حرب أوكرانيا
وحتى وقت مبكر من مساء السبت الماضي بتوقيت واشنطن لم يتم نشر أي إشعار بالتجديد على الموقع الإلكتروني لوزارة الخزانة، فيما أحجم متحدث باسم الوزارة عن الإدلاء بمزيد من التعليقات.
وحثت العضوتان البارزتان في مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي عن الحزب الديموقراطي جين شاهين وإليزابيث وارن أخيراً إدارة ترمب على عدم تجديد الإعفاء بحجة أنه يوفر إيرادات لروسيا لدعم حربها في أوكرانيا، لكن لا يوجد دليل على أنه يخفض تكاليف الوقود للمستهلكين الأمريكيين.
A source revealed today that the U.S. Treasury Department has decided to extend the exemption from sanctions on Russian oil transported by sea for 30 days, after it expired last Saturday, according to what was published by the "Al Arabiya.net" website.
The source explained that the extension came after several countries requested more time to purchase Russian oil.
Supply Shortage
The United States had issued the exemption in an attempt to alleviate the shortage of oil supplies and rising prices due to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the U.S.-Israeli attack, but this step had little effect in calming gasoline prices in the United States.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Piesen had previously indicated that he would not renew the general license that allows the purchase of Russian oil stored on tankers.
Ukraine War
As of early Saturday evening, Washington time, no renewal notice had been posted on the Treasury Department's website, while a spokesperson for the department declined to provide further comments.
Prominent Democratic Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Elizabeth Warren recently urged the Trump administration not to renew the exemption on the grounds that it provides revenue to Russia to support its war in Ukraine, but there is no evidence that it lowers fuel costs for American consumers.
