حذّرت وزيرة الخزانة البريطانية راشيل ريفز، اليوم، من أن التداعيات الاقتصادية لحرب إيران ربما تكون كبيرة، لكنها تعهدت بالقيام بما هو صحيح ومنصف. وأشارت إلى أنها ستتخذ تدابير إضافية من أجل الحد من ارتفاع الأسعار.
وقالت ريفز في خطاب أمام مجلس العموم البريطاني (البرلمان): «إن هذا يعني التفاعل مع عالم متغير والتحلي بالمسؤولية حرصاً على المصلحة الوطنية، وهذه ليست حرباً بدأناها، ولا هي حرب انضممنا إليها».
ارتفاع النفط والغاز
واستهلت وزيرة الخزانة خطابها بالقول، إن أسعار النفط والغاز لا تزال مرتفعة منذ آخر مرة خاطبت فيها أعضاء البرلمان، وإن بنك إنجلترا يتوقع أن معدل التضخم ربما سيتراوح بين 3 و3.5% خلال الأسابيع القليلة القادمة.
وأعلنت وزيرة الخزانة أنها تعتزم اتخاذ إجراءات إضافية من أجل الحد من تكاليف المعيشة. وأوضحت أن الخطوة الأولى هي «التعاون العالمي»، معتبرة أن «التهدئة السريعة لهذا الصراع، لا تزال الحل الأمثل لحماية الأسر والشركات».
الإفراج عن الاحتياطيات
ورحبت ريفز بقرار الإفراج عن احتياطيات النفط لتخفيف الضغط المباشر على الإمدادات، كما روّجت لاستثمارات الحكومة في الطاقة المتجددة لتحسين أمن الطاقة في بريطانيا، قائلة: «ينبغي أن نضمن أن صناعة النفط والغاز المحلية لدينا ويمكنها أيضاً أن تلعب دوراً في نظام الطاقة لدينا لعقود قادمة»، كما أعلنت عن خطط لتسريع التوسع في الطاقة النووية.
وأفادت الوزيرة أن الحكومة تعمل على تطوير خيارات لدعم مشاريع الطاقة الحيوية بتعويضات في حالة الطعن في موافقة التخطيط الخاصة بها، حتى لا نضيع لحظة واحدة في حماية أمننا في مجال الطاقة».
ويأتي التحذير بعد إعلان رئيس الوزراء كير ستارمر، للمرة الأولى، أن الحكومة تدرس تقديم الدعم للأسر لتغطية فواتير الطاقة حتى نهاية العام.
British Treasury Minister Rachel Reeves warned today that the economic repercussions of the Iran war could be significant, but she pledged to do what is right and fair. She indicated that she would take additional measures to curb rising prices.
Reeves stated in a speech before the British House of Commons (parliament): “This means engaging with a changing world and acting responsibly in the interest of national welfare, and this is not a war we started, nor is it a war we joined.”
Rising Oil and Gas Prices
The Treasury Minister began her speech by saying that oil and gas prices have remained high since the last time she addressed parliament members, and that the Bank of England expects inflation rates to range between 3% and 3.5% in the coming weeks.
She announced that she intends to take additional actions to reduce the cost of living. She clarified that the first step is “global cooperation,” considering that “a swift de-escalation of this conflict remains the best solution to protect families and businesses.”
Release of Reserves
Reeves welcomed the decision to release oil reserves to alleviate immediate supply pressures, and she promoted government investments in renewable energy to enhance energy security in Britain, stating: “We must ensure that our domestic oil and gas industry can also play a role in our energy system for decades to come.” She also announced plans to accelerate the expansion of nuclear energy.
The minister reported that the government is working on developing options to support vital energy projects with compensation in case of challenges to their planning approvals, so that “we do not waste a moment in protecting our energy security.”
This warning comes after Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced for the first time that the government is considering providing support to families to cover energy bills until the end of the year.
