أكد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب إن مسؤولين في الحكومة الأميركية، بمن فيهم وزير الخارجية ماركو روبيو، يجرون مناقشات مع النظام الشيوعي في كوبا، في وقت تواجه الجزيرة أوضاعاً اقتصادية متدهورة.
وقال ترمب للصحافيين أمس (الإثنين): «نحن نتحدث إلى كوبا الآن، وماركو روبيو يتحدث إلى كوبا الآن»، وأضاف على متن طائرة الرئاسة: «ينبغي لكوبا بالتأكيد أن تُبرم اتفاقاً لأن الوضع يشكل تهديداً إنسانياً».
وتابع: «في الوقت الحالي، هناك حظر، ولا يوجد نفط، ولا يوجد مال، ولا يوجد أي شيء».
وتشهد الحياة اليومية في كوبا شللاً تاماً، بعد أن فقدت البلاد داعمها الرئيسي عندما ألقت الولايات المتحدة القبض على الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو في أوائل شهر يناير.
وقال روبيو، في مقابلة مع «بلومبرغ» السبت: «إن إدارة ترمب مستعدة لتقديم مزيد من المساعدات الإنسانية، بعد أن سعت البلاد إلى التكيف في الأسابيع التي أعقبت إطاحة مادورو».
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that officials in the U.S. government, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are having discussions with the communist regime in Cuba, at a time when the island is facing deteriorating economic conditions.
Trump told reporters yesterday (Monday): "We are talking to Cuba now, and Marco Rubio is talking to Cuba now," adding aboard Air Force One: "Cuba definitely needs to make a deal because the situation poses a humanitarian threat."
He continued: "Right now, there is a blockade, there is no oil, there is no money, there is nothing."
Daily life in Cuba is completely paralyzed, after the country lost its main supporter when the United States arrested Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in early January.
Rubio said in an interview with Bloomberg on Saturday: "The Trump administration is ready to provide more humanitarian assistance, after the country sought to adapt in the weeks following Maduro's ousting."
