تواجه مجموعة «موانئ دبي العالمية» ضغوطاً متزايدة بعد إعلان مؤسسة التمويل الإنمائي البريطانية «بريتيش إنترناشونال إنفستمنت» (BII) وصندوق تقاعد كندي كبير تعليق أي استثمارات جديدة معها، على خلفية ورود اسم رئيس مجلس إدارتها والرئيس التنفيذي سلطان أحمد بن سليم في ملفات حديثة الارتباط بجيفري إبستين، المدان في جرائم جنسية.
تجميد استثمارات جديدة
وأكدت «بي.آي.آي» في بيان أنها لن تمضي قدماً في أي استثمارات جديدة مع «دبي بي ورلد» إلى حين اتضاح الصورة واتخاذ الشركة ما يلزم من إجراءات. وقال متحدث باسم المؤسسة إنهم «مصدومون من المزاعم» الواردة في ملفات إبستين، مضيفاً أن القرار يأتي في إطار التزامها بمعايير الحوكمة والشفافية.
كما أعلن صندوق التقاعد الكندي «لا كايس» وقف ضخ أي رأسمال إضافي مع المجموعة مؤقتاً، بانتظار تقديم إيضاحات كافية واتخاذ «الإجراءات الضرورية».
وتظهر بيانات «بي.آي.آي» أنها تستثمر بالشراكة مع «موانئ دبي العالمية» في أربعة موانئ داخل أفريقيا.
ظهور الاسم في الوثائق
وبحسب ما أورد أعضاء في الكونغرس الأمريكي، فقد ورد اسم بن سليم ضمن ملايين الوثائق التي نشرتها وزارة العدل الأمريكية، والتي كشفت شبكة علاقات إبستين مع شخصيات بارزة في السياسة والمال والأعمال.
وتُظهر رسائل بريد إلكتروني أفرجت عنها أخيرا وزارة العدل الأمريكية، أن سلطان بن سليم، تبادل رسائل جريئة مع إبستين قبل سجن الأخير عام 2008، واستمرت لأكثر من عقد من الزمن بعد إدانته بتهم شملت ترويج الدعارة مع قاصرين.
كما تبيّن هذه الرسائل أن الطرفين تبادلا معلومات اتصال بجهات في مجالي الأعمال والسياسة، وسعيا لإبرام صفقات لبعضهما البعض. وتضمّنت إشارات صريحة إلى مناسبات جنسية، وتشير الرسائل إلى أن بن سليم كتب كثيراً إلى إبستين حول زيارة جزيرته الخاصة في الكاريبي، بل وساعده في بعض الترتيبات عندما كان إبستين يخطط لإنشاء منتجع خاص.
صمت رسمي وتدقيق متواصل
وامتنعت «موانئ دبي العالمية» عن التعليق على ما نُشر، كما لم يصدر رد فوري من بن سليم على استفسارات إعلامية عبر حسابه في «لينكد إن». كذلك لم تعلّق مجموعة «ماكلارين» – الشريك اللوجستي للمجموعة في سباقات الفورمولا 1 منذ 2023 – بشأن ما إذا كانت تعيد تقييم علاقتها بالشركة.
إمبراطورية لوجستية عالمية
ويُعد سلطان أحمد بن سليم من أبرز رجال الأعمال في دبي، إذ قاد «موانئ دبي العالمية» خلال مرحلة توسع كبرى جعلتها واحدة من أكبر شركات الخدمات اللوجستية عالمياً، وتؤكد المجموعة أنها تدير نحو 10% من حركة التجارة العالمية عبر عمليات تمتد إلى كندا وبيرو والهند وأنغولا وغيرها.
كما يرتبط اسمها برعاية فعاليات رياضية كبرى، بينها جولة غولف أوروبية، إلى جانب حضورها على قمصان فرق رياضية في أستراليا وجنوب أفريقيا.
وإلى جانب رئاسته للمجموعة، يتولى بن سليم مناصب قيادية عدة، منها رئاسة مجلس إدارة غرفة دبي العالمية، ومؤسسة الموانئ والجمارك والمنطقة الحرة، وكان من بين مؤسسي شركة «نخيل» المطورة لجزر النخلة، إضافة إلى مساهمته في إنشاء مركز دبي للسلع المتعددة.
Dubai Ports World is facing increasing pressure following the announcement by the British International Investment (BII) and a large Canadian pension fund to suspend any new investments with it, amid the mention of its Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem in recent files linked to Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual crimes.
Suspension of New Investments
BII confirmed in a statement that it will not proceed with any new investments with Dubai Ports World until the situation becomes clearer and the company takes the necessary actions. A spokesperson for the institution stated that they are "shocked by the allegations" contained in Epstein's files, adding that the decision comes as part of their commitment to governance and transparency standards.
The Canadian pension fund La Caisse also announced a temporary halt to any additional capital injection with the group, pending sufficient clarifications and the taking of "necessary actions."
BII's data shows that it is investing in partnership with Dubai Ports World in four ports within Africa.
The Name Appears in Documents
According to members of the U.S. Congress, bin Sulayem's name appeared among millions of documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice, which revealed Epstein's network of connections with prominent figures in politics, finance, and business.
Emails recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice show that Sultan bin Sulayem exchanged bold messages with Epstein before the latter's imprisonment in 2008, continuing for more than a decade after his conviction on charges that included promoting prostitution with minors.
These messages also indicate that the two exchanged contact information with parties in the business and political fields and sought to make deals for each other. They included explicit references to sexual occasions, and the messages suggest that bin Sulayem frequently wrote to Epstein about visiting his private island in the Caribbean, even assisting him with some arrangements when Epstein was planning to establish a private resort.
Official Silence and Ongoing Scrutiny
Dubai Ports World refrained from commenting on the published information, and there was no immediate response from bin Sulayem to media inquiries via his LinkedIn account. The McLaren Group – the logistics partner of the group in Formula 1 racing since 2023 – also did not comment on whether it is reassessing its relationship with the company.
Global Logistics Empire
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem is one of the most prominent businessmen in Dubai, having led Dubai Ports World through a major expansion phase that made it one of the largest logistics service companies globally. The group asserts that it manages about 10% of global trade through operations extending to Canada, Peru, India, Angola, and others.
Its name is also associated with sponsoring major sporting events, including a European golf tour, as well as its presence on the jerseys of sports teams in Australia and South Africa.
In addition to his role at the group, bin Sulayem holds several leadership positions, including the chairmanship of the Dubai World Chamber of Commerce, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, and was among the founders of Nakheel, the developer of the Palm Islands, in addition to his contribution to establishing the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.
