بدأت الصين والولايات المتحدة جولة جديدة من المحادثات التجارية في ماليزيا، وفقاً لما أعلنه متحدث باسم وزارة الخزانة الأمريكية وذكرته وسائل الإعلام الرسمية في بكين، وذلك قبل اجتماع مرتقب جداً لرئيسي البلدين في كوريا الجنوبية الأسبوع القادم.
وأفادت وزارة التجارة الصينية سابقاً بأن نائب رئيس الوزراء هي ليفينغ سيرأس وفداً إلى ماليزيا حتى الاثنين لإجراء محادثات مع الولايات المتحدة.
وقال متحدث باسم وزارة الخزانة الأمريكية: «إن المحادثات في كوالالمبور بدأت، كذلك أفادت وكالة شينخوا الرسمية للأنباء بأن الوفدين الصيني والأمريكي اجتمعا صباح السبت لإجراء محادثات بشأن القضايا الاقتصادية والتجارية».
صفقة جيدة
وتسعى الدولتان صاحبتا أكبر اقتصادين في العالم إلى تجنب المزيد من التصعيد في حرب الرسوم الجمركية المتبادلة، ومن المتوقع أن يلتقي الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب نظيره الصيني شي جينبينغ في كوريا الجنوبية الخميس القادم لهذا الغرض.
ويأمل الرئيس الأمريكي في أن تفضي هذه القمة إلى إبرام صفقة جيدة مع الصين وإنهاء الحرب التجارية، مع أنه هدد سابقاً بإلغاء الاجتماع الذي يُعقد على هامش قمة منتدى التعاون الاقتصادي لآسيا والمحيط الهادئ (أبيك) في 31 أكتوبر الجاري.
ضوابط جديدة
وسبق للصين، التي تُعد أكبر منتج في العالم للمعادن المستخدمة في صنع المغناطيسات الحيوية لصناعات السيارات والإلكترونيات والدفاع، أن أعلنت هذا الشهر ضوابط جديدة على تصدير تكنولوجيات المعادن النادرة، ما دفع ترمب إلى التهديد بفرض رسوم جمركية إضافية بنسبة 100% على الواردات من الصين.
كما بدأت كل دولة بفرض رسوم على سفن الأخرى، وهو إجراء بدأته واشنطن بعدما خلص تحقيق بموجب «الفصل 301» إلى أن هيمنة بكين على القطاع غير مبرَّرة، ما دفع بكين إلى الرد بالمثل.
China and the United States have begun a new round of trade talks in Malaysia, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Treasury Department and reported by official media in Beijing, ahead of a highly anticipated meeting between the two countries' leaders in South Korea next week.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce previously stated that Vice Premier He Lifeng will lead a delegation to Malaysia until Monday to conduct talks with the United States.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Treasury Department said, "The talks in Kuala Lumpur have started," and the official Xinhua News Agency reported that the Chinese and American delegations met on Saturday morning to discuss economic and trade issues.
Good Deal
The two countries, which have the largest economies in the world, are seeking to avoid further escalation in the ongoing trade war, and U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea next Thursday for this purpose.
President Trump hopes that this summit will lead to a good deal with China and an end to the trade war, although he previously threatened to cancel the meeting, which is taking place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on October 31.
New Controls
China, which is the world's largest producer of metals used in making rare earth magnets for the automotive, electronics, and defense industries, announced earlier this month new controls on the export of rare earth metal technologies, prompting Trump to threaten to impose an additional 100% tariff on imports from China.
Each country has also begun imposing tariffs on each other's ships, a measure initiated by Washington after an investigation under "Section 301" concluded that Beijing's dominance in the sector was unjustified, prompting Beijing to respond in kind.
