Government data released today (Friday) showed that Japan's economy grew by 1% in the quarter from April to June on a year-on-year basis, surpassing estimates.

Analysts expect that the full impact of U.S. tariffs on the country's growth will not be evident until subsequent data is released.

Robust exports and capital spending supported growth in the second quarter, which is also likely to bolster the Bank of Japan's move to resume interest rate hikes and normalize monetary policy.

The average growth forecast in a Reuters survey was at 0.4%, following an increase to 0.6% in the previous quarter.

This translates to a quarterly growth rate of 0.3%, which is also better than the average estimates that stood at 0.1%.
