انكمش الاقتصاد الروسي خلال الربع الأول للمرة الأولى منذ بداية عام 2023، في انتكاسة لجهود الرئيس فلاديمير بوتين الرامية إلى الحفاظ على النمو مع مواصلته الحرب في أوكرانيا.
وتراجع الناتج المحلي الإجمالي بنسبة 0.2% خلال الأشهر الثلاثة الأولى من العام مقارنة بالفترة نفسها من العام السابق، وفق بيانات صادرة عن هيئة الإحصاء الفيدرالية الروسية.
ومن المرجح أن يعزز هذا الانكماش المخاوف من انزلاق الاقتصاد الروسي المدفوع بالحرب نحو الركود تحت وطأة ارتفاع تكاليف الاقتراض، رغم أن بعض العوامل الاستثنائية ربما فاقمت التراجع، وكان بوتين قد طلب الشهر الماضي تفسيرات لتباطؤ النشاط الاقتصادي ورداً من المسؤولين.
وخلال اجتماع متلفز اليوم (السبت) قال بوتين: «إن الاقتصاد انتعش بنسبة 1.8% في مارس الماضي بعد انكماشه في شهر فبراير الماضي، مضيفاً أن هذا التعافي يعكس أثر الإجراءات التي اتخذتها الحكومة».
The Russian economy contracted in the first quarter for the first time since the beginning of 2023, marking a setback for President Vladimir Putin's efforts to maintain growth while continuing the war in Ukraine.
The GDP declined by 0.2% during the first three months of the year compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Russian Federal Statistics Service.
This contraction is likely to heighten concerns about the Russian economy, driven by the war, sliding into recession under the weight of rising borrowing costs, although some exceptional factors may have exacerbated the decline. Last month, Putin requested explanations for the slowdown in economic activity from officials.
During a televised meeting today (Saturday), Putin stated: "The economy rebounded by 1.8% in March after contracting in February, adding that this recovery reflects the impact of measures taken by the government."
