قالت مساعدة وزير الخارجية الفلبينية للشؤون الأمريكية راكيل سولانو أن بلادها تأمل في التوصل إلى اتفاق تجاري مع الولايات المتحدة، خلال زيارة الرئيس فيرديناند ماركوس جونيور إلى واشنطن ولقائه مع نظيره الأمريكي ترمب بين 20 و22 يوليو الجاري.
وأضافت راكيل أن الزيارة ستركز كذلك على تعزيز التعاون الأمني بين البلدين، مشيرة إلى أن المحادثات ستشمل قضايا الدفاع، والوضع في بحر الصين الجنوبي، وإمكانية نشر أصول عسكرية في المنطقة.
وقالت: «نأمل في التوصل إلى اتفاق تجاري ثنائي أو تفاهم تجاري متبادل يكون مقبولاً ومفيداً للطرفين، وسنواصل التأكيد على أنه لكي تكون الفلبين شريكاً قوياً للولايات المتحدة، علينا أن نكون أقوى اقتصادياً أيضاً»، بحسب «بلومبرج».
تأتي زيارة «ماركوس»، الذي من المقرر أن يكون أول رئيس من جنوب شرق آسيا يزور ترمب خلال ولايته الثانية، بعد أن رفعت الإدارة الأمريكية الرسوم الجمركية على صادرات الفلبين للولايات المتحدة إلى 20% من 17% بدءاً من أغسطس.

The Philippine Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for American Affairs, Raquel Solano, stated that her country hopes to reach a trade agreement with the United States during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s visit to Washington and his meeting with his American counterpart Trump from July 20 to 22.
Raquel added that the visit will also focus on enhancing security cooperation between the two countries, noting that discussions will include defense issues, the situation in the South China Sea, and the possibility of deploying military assets in the region.
She said, “We hope to reach a bilateral trade agreement or a mutual trade understanding that is acceptable and beneficial to both parties, and we will continue to emphasize that for the Philippines to be a strong partner for the United States, we also need to be stronger economically,” according to Bloomberg.
The visit of “Marcos,” who is set to be the first Southeast Asian president to visit Trump during his second term, comes after the U.S. administration raised tariffs on Philippine exports to the United States to 20% from 17% starting in August.
